I'm looking for ideas and suggestions on a good rifle for Africa. I'm hoping to hunt Cape buffalo, lion and leopard.

Criteria:
Left handed or lefty user friendly
.375 H&H
Detachable scope, iron sights
$8,000 budget

Let'er rip...

If it's gotta be the H&H, I'd find a used, LH M70, so chambered, and get it tuned by a good smith. Might take awhile, but it'd be worth the search IMO.

You could go Ruger for much, much less though. There are a couple lightly used LH 375 Ruger African's for sale right here in the EE...;)

Look for a LH Model 70 of any flavour and call Gene Simillion. Seriously.

That CZ .375LH looks pretty nice and $1800 seems cheap for a solid gun like that. I might buy a CZ452 LH in .17HMR. That would make an interesting pair on the gunroom wall!

But I want to be able to look at and handle the same rifle that I use on my lifelong dream hunt. .375 H&H is also a good moose or bear gun at home too.

I just got back from one of my frequent "dream hunts". The big pumpkin bear only showed his tracks and his ca ca tonight.:)

A CZ 550 would be a fine choice. A low power VX2 would be more than adequate. No ca ca.
My 602 is set up with a peeper sight and I really like it that way.

Check out American Hunting Rifles, (AHR) and their DGR Rifle in particular. The base model is $5000 and AAA Walnut, it goes up from there. That will leave enough for the scope of your choice, and probably airfare oneway.
If the hunting gets slow you can sit around looking at it, and it's a sure bet that you can admire it for years to come.
Caliber has to be .375, anything else just wouldn't be right.
