why would it matter? i doubt any of us will live another 100 years on top of where we are currently (meaning, who is really gonna hit 118 anyways??). and even if one does live that long, would it matter if the 1911 is still around? why? i'd hope that technology moves forward somehow, and if i can't fix my 97-year-old Glock when i'm too damned old to stand up, so what? seems silly to wonder about the next 50+ years of an item like a firearm. hopefully, each of us can by then afford to buy a replacement of some kind. if not, there's bigger issues afoot!!!

I wasn't talking about the 1911 in general I'm talking about this new offering from Remington. Apparently, there already have been some issues with the early models, or so I have read.

I'd consider one, If the price was equal to the price of a NORC.
But on the other hand Id likely prefer the Norc Commander .

Talked with remington yesterday.
The main issue was the mags, they are going with Magar to make them oem mags.
A few other small issue, thats the reason the ydid not show it at shot show.
The gun should be out shortly.
Sound like the price is going to be good as well.

Tehe retail price on these in Canada should run about $699-$749. there are some 1911's coming out of Italy that will be a bit less. They all should arrive at about the same time.

I cannot, for the life of me, see the appeal of the 1911. I have owned one, and shot a few, and found them all cantankerous, painful to shoot, overly complex, and requiring careful individual tuning (and lots of money) to make them work at all.

But, I guess being broken down on the side of the road with a face full of bugs, while trying to fix a Harley Davidson, is popular for some motorcyclists, as well.

well, you know how it goes: 98% of Harleys are still on the road - the other 2% made it home.

reminds me of the time i went to an informal session on how to put together a good toolkit for road trips on the motorbike. the guy leading it had a tool kit that he was proud to say "will fit inside just ONE saddle-bag" and even allowed him to "have the transmission of his H-D apart on the side of the road and be able to fix it"

really?!?!?!

wow, i ride a Kawasaki, and my tool kit fits inside a pencil case from the dollar store, and that includes work gloves, hand cleaner, and one of those round analog needle tire pressure gauges.

I own 3 1911s and plan on at least 5 more. All mine have been functioning damn well. Nope. Lets say perfect so far. If you buy a cheap one, maybe. Friend had a Kimber SIS and it took some work. So that may be an exception to the whatever rule.

There is a reason that a 100 year old gun is still being produced and copied. It is lost on you, but others know.

Also I will say that a Remington isn't "thee" one to have but might be a nice shooter.
