References for PAL

can we use a family member as a reference for the PAL application?

yeah, I used both my mother and my father. different names, same address, same phone number. no problem - but they didn't contact them either (bc)

Doesnt sound like the contact your references for PAL - but they do for RPAL..

I used a friend and my mother in law, it was for a RPAL and both were contacted.

They did for my PAL and for my RPAL. Course they just called my mother in law in both cases. maybe it's a random thing.

i neglected to mention it would be RPAL

As a recent immigrant to Canada I had to use references in England for my RPAL as I didn't know anyone well enough in Canada. Both were contacted (eventually). The license was held up because they couldn't reach one of my referees, but they neglected to inform me of this. I had to call them to find out what was the hold up and then they told me they had been unable to reach one reference. In the end he called them. I found this rather surprising but they seemed happy with it.
