see what I was talking about with the butt

Your absolutely right Currton,I was lucky! A guy I work with knew I was looking for a sks, he saw one fore sale at his range called me told me the phone # ect.....I went to the guys house and he pulled out an sks with a 5 round mag attached to it in a Ati folding stock,he told me the stock alone cost him $100.The guy knew his guns As our conversation went on,so why he sold me the sks d for $150 I don't know??I didn't even Know what I had at the time! It just looked like a cool gun?!on a different note I only
paid $200 for my garand 7 months ago! I guess I'm at the right place at the right time?

About half of these guns seem to have the finish issue on the butt from what I've seen. That being said, the one I have which was like that had the finish melt when I applied methylated spirits, so the finish was just amber shellac. I wiped on a little hand-mixed amber shellac and it blended perfectly - a really easy fix.

Would it be a crime to mount one of Teapot's scopes on a blade bayonet, # matching, factory 26 that shoots insanely well for an sks? Serial starts with 09 so last year with the blade bayonets.

Thinking very hard about it...I know its a keeper and I shoot it very often...

Factory 26 dating scheme. 09 is 9th year of production of the SKS at Factory 26. So 1965. From what I have read this was the last year Factory 26 produced SKSs with the blade bayonet. I could be wrong but its really a trivial matter. I have seen mix-master Chicom SKSs with blade bayonets as well, but mine is a numbers matching(except stock) example.

Personally, if I were going to install a bolt-on mount, I would not do it to an early Factory 26 when new and plentiful spike bayo guns are all over the place.

If you want, pm me and I'll swap you a brand new Factory 625 for you to drill and tap and I'll keep that 26 blade-model safe for you ;)

There should not be a zero in front of the nine on a /26\. They started with 1million in 57.Is your barrel threaded or pinned?

you are not wrong , some time in 1965 they switched to spike.

thats what thru me off is the /26\ 1965 SN do not start with a zero .

could you post a pic of the SN with the barrel lug?

Well I had around a dozen SKSs at one time so I had a shoot off. That one was the winner by a mile. Only got 2 left now. The factory 26 and a 54 Izh # matching(force stock tho). Never shot the Izh but I don't think I will.

I'm on dial-up so pic uploading takes a while. I can probably get some up.
