My new milsurp - CANADIAN Inglis Hi Power 9mm - LOTS of pictures

Hey guys,

I finally picked up my newest milsurp today, and all matching Inglis 9mm Hi Power. I did a bit of reading and found my pistol was made in October of 1944! I am just wondering if anyone knows what the marks on the holster are? The pistol is in GREAT shape with just enough wear to fire (not too much) and not feel too guilty :p The holster is also in great shape with the CANADA buttons still on the side, along with the two JI mags.

Fine looking piece of Canadian history. I was speaking to a retired gent the other day who was acquainted with a man who was in a senior position at Inglis. He told this gent that they lost about seven pistols a week off the line at Inglis and despite a lot of investigation, they never did find out how they were smuggled out of the factory!
 
Thanks a lot guys. In regards to the camera I can't remember off hand, I will check and get bak to you. The real trick is the macro and super macro settings, they are really great for pictures of markings and stamps.

I have always wondered how these pistols made it into civilians hands seeing as I read somewhere that they were never realeased to the general public.
 
I'm jealous - I hope to own one one day. Even if I can't find an Inglis hi-power, I hope to find one. I love shooting it ever since i put the first shot through one in Gagetown.. even if the third round jammed.. and then the fourth.. :p Good way to practice the clearance drills ;)

Our weapons techs here do AMAZING work keeping our 9mm's running. A lot of our pistols are very worn and abused yet they keep on trucking with proper mags and training. I picked this pistol up because its the same pistol my grandfather was issued back in the 40's, the same my dad was issued in the 70's and its now the same pistol I have been issued! Kinda sad in a way...:p
 
Come to think of it I still remember one guys decal coming off his HP when he was cleaning it. At the time I just figured it was some kind of sticker with funky writing :redface:
 
I'm floored by how well they've stood up to the abuse we put them through. Decades of harsh use and +P ammunition would destroy a lesser pistol, for sure. It's unfortunate that newer magazines aren't too common in the system, at least in my limited experience. When we had new issue FN magazines, the hi-power worked flawlessly. It's a dated design, but it's certainly given sterling service.

Plus I'm holding two of them in my avatar :p
 
Some of them have undergone refurbs during their extensive life spans, but then again, last time we were up at the range a unit dusted off their pistols only to find one that was ww2 dated never having been fired! Dusted off indeed.
