My new milsurp - CANADIAN Inglis Hi Power 9mm - LOTS of pictures

Thanks guys! A lot of our mags Ive found are mixed JI and polished blue commercial mags. When they're handing them out guys race for the commerical ones :p

Im happy this pistol is in such great shape, with just a tiny bit of wear. Enough to still be collectible, with just enough wear to not be paranoid of shooting it a bit and handling it!

Fantastic pistol, ArtyMan! They don't come much nicer than that ....

Zephyr Looms & Textiles was the largest producer of Canadian web equipment during WWII. One also encounters a fair bit of the stuff marked M S & U Ltd. (Montreal Suspender and Umbrella Ltd. - no kidding) but as far as I know all the Inglis holsters were made by Zephyr.

As you likely know, the holster you have is the No. 1 (first pattern) holster made to specs supplied by the Chinese. They tend to be a bit too small (shrinkage?) and thus it can be difficult to get the pistol fully in and the flap closed and 'latched'. As a result, they were apparently rather unpopular, and in photographs taken in the field, it is not uncommon to see this patternin use with the flap tucked back behind the belt, so as not to have to fight with it ....

The No. 2 (or "Type F") holster was more popular, and is quite commonly encountered in unissued condition, apparently because they made a bunch of them for Canada's anticipated involvement in the Pacific Theater after VE Day, Those examples will usually have a "TPL" stamp inside, which Clive Law indicates denotes "Tropical", and indicates that the material was treated with a fungicide to help it survive in hot, humid conditions.

yes thanks Grant, I have one of the second type of holster in about the same condition as your pictures, however I'm missing the cleaning rod.

I've been tempted to strap it to my tac vest next time I have to go to the range for my annual qualification shoot :D

Wow! That's cool! I never thought they had 9 mm milsurp pistols. I guess I need to get more educated on this. Would be nice to have a pistol like this for sure.

Quite a few 9mm milsurp pistols are around including the P38s, Lugers, TT-33s (with a 9mm bbl) and of course the hi powers to name a few.

that pistol looks great, out of all the service pistols i've had a chance to fire,
i realy love our inglis. not because its ours just the way it handels. the yanks 45's and berreta's are nice pistols, the brit fn hi power is nice. just something about a inglis. saying that, the one you have isn't safe you should send it to me right away.:)

Couldn't agree more. I've fired quite a few GI .45s, an M9 and a few HPs but something about the Inglis is just "right". One day when I win the lottery however I will pick up a nice 1911 and an M9!

In my quest for a 9mm pistol I narrowed my choices down the three. The M9, a Glock :)eek:) and a Browning HP. I ruled out the Glock as I wanted something steel with an exposed hammer. I like the DA system of the M9, and used to own a P38 so it wasnt too far off of what I have used before. Then a gentlemen came across my path with a Cdn army Inglis for sale, well it sold rather fast!

you did the right thing. you not only have a peice of canada (inglis), you have a tried and tested pistola. just because it is old doesn't make it bad. 1911 are being carried by u.s. troops over the berretta. maybe i'm old school, so much can and does go wrong, why not keep it simple as possible. the 9mm is just that much better then the 1911. draw back .45 vs 9mm. but still you have a great pistol.

Thanks! I have recieved a few "WHAT! BUY A GLOCK!" from a few people, but I feel I made a good choice. The whole 9 vs .45 dosnt matter to much to me, right now its a range gun, both calibres "kill" paper pretty well:p The 9mm is fairly small but it has been working for over a hundred years thus far!

Woh woh woh, don't go spreading these "bigger bullets work better to kill" rumours! We've spent too much developing our tiny rounds! 5.56 anyone?

You can still push 147gr bullet out of a 9mm, thats not exactly a tiny round. Compared to .45 its small, but thats like saying 7.62x51 NATO doesn't work because .50BMG is bigger. If we were ever allowed to carry I wouldnt hesitate to pack the 9mm HP.

Very nice grab Arty Man!

BTW, someone on here (I think it was Koldt) had made up some new repro stickers...might ask.

Hey guys,

I finally picked up my newest milsurp today, and all matching Inglis 9mm Hi Power. I did a bit of reading and found my pistol was made in October of 1944! I am just wondering if anyone knows what the marks on the holster are? The pistol is in GREAT shape with just enough wear to fire (not too much) and not feel too guilty :p The holster is also in great shape with the CANADA buttons still on the side, along with the two JI mags.

The pics are photoshopped to hide the full serial number. There are two more digits.

Bang on! I tried my best to hide it but my MS paint skills are lacking to say the least :p I figured the last two hidden should prove sufficient.

Thanks for the heads up on the stickers, I'll send him off a PM! Itd be nice to have one that I wouldnt be afraid to touch! :D
