Have just purchased a BSA Sweet 17 and installed it on a HMR, I did not use the supplied rings as they are see throughs and the rifle has no sights, I just bought cheap rings to mount to the weaver base.

Trying with the boresighter, I ended up cranking the crosshair to the stop and still not getting it be "ON"
Hoping it was a boresighter issue I took the gun to the range. Horizontal it is perfect but is at least 6 inches low at 25 yards when it has been adjusted to its max "up". If I crank it all the way "down" to the other stop, at 25 yards it drops about another 8 inches. The recticle is moving in the glass, but it will not move enough. Tried it at 100 yds and I am 20 inches low.

What could the causes of this be? Is the scope junk, I know the rings aren't much. I was being cheap and bought the scope off ebay, does that mean I am SOL on warranty if it is a faulty scope.

thanks for any insight people may have

If there is nothing wrong with the scope, it should work great, I have one for a 17hmr, and it's spot on out to 100 yards

make sure your mounts and rings are on correctly, not backwards, or mismatched, when mounting make sure the rifle is level and square, and so is the scope once put into the rings, then tighten evenly

+1 i had the same issue on a .22 scope mounted in a hurry , used a level to re mount the scopes and it works fine
