here in NS we can use our hunting rifles from the close of deer season until the end of march for yotes after the end of march only shotgun until the bear season opens in the fall.i got the 222 so i can hunt NB where they have a seperate varmit season and you can use centerfires under 23 caliber only.we could possibly have a similar season in NS within the next few years as well

I have a brand new Sako 85 Stainless Laminate Varmint in .223.For now,it will wear a VXII 4-12x40,but I hope to replace that scope with a Kahles CL 3-9x42,because I hate the way the eye relife changes with the Leupold as the magnification is changed.

I have two lined up for Varmint/Pred control, hopefully for some here on Vancouver Island and for trips to the central interior. First, from 'days' gone by, an old custom Winchester High Wall in 219 Donaldson Wasp with an era specific 10X J.UNERTL scope.

The second, and for something more in tune with 'today', a Savage 112 BVSS in 25-06, with a Leupold VX-III, 6.5-20 long range with Varmint reticle.

Both shoot well.

The 219 seems to 'like' 50gr Hornady V-MAX

Pardon the 'home made' target.

.257 Weatherby. Ballistic tips. Might as well just flip 'em inside out, no?

I think I need something a bit smaller though. Marlin or Stevens in .243 would make a decent loaner/beater gun for deer and should be able to tag 'yotes as far as I can see them.

700 in 204. Great caliber to shoot. Haven't had a chance to reach past 200, but I think it's good for 300.

Got one the other day with a 12G 870 and two 3" turkey loads...they worked...not the quietest kill I've had...but they worked.
