IWI Tavor or KAC SR-15

Unless you're in the Sates, I'd be interested to know where you're going to find an SR-15.

Yes I see the picture, but I was under the impression that they don't have any. Questar is out too I believe (at least they don't have any up on their site anymore). I was just surprised to see a lot of discussion about a rifle that, because of the new US State Dep'ts stance (no export of 5.56 or 7.62), is essentially now "unobtanium". So omegaboost may want to buy the SR first if he can and then sell the Tavor as opposed to "sell it and get a sr-15" or he may end up with neither.
 
As a tavor owner I'm gonna chime in here. I'm also not that great of a shot on paper (maybe overanalyze everything?)

anyways once you get used to the tavors trigger and remove the extra spring, it's livable. The thing I noticed that throws my shooting off is the distance from the sight to the bore. It's like 4 inches, so having any cant on your rifle when shooting throws off your POI. that said I love my tavor! Non restricted gopher killing goodness!
 
Personnally, I had both, I like the SR-15 much better if you don't mind it being restricted. The Tavor is good as it is really short but as I have to go to the range to shoot anyway, the choice is pretty easy.

No flame at all. Take the Tavor out past 100m and see where the wheels fall off. Both groups I posted pictures of were at 500m, prone off the mag. If the Tavor can hold 2 moa out to 500m I will eat my words.

If a Tavor is decently accurate at 100 yards, why would you expect it to become more inaccurate at distance compared to an AR? They are shooting the same cartridge after all, and barrel length is not going to be an issue… Like I mentioned, my Tavor shoots 1.3” with the best load I have developed so far (69gr SMK, 23.5gr H335, Fed 205M, all in fireformed cheap Remington brass). I bought the Tavor for close – medium range, so normally it wears an Elcan SpecterDR, but to put your theory to the test I mounted some better optics and set a target at exactly 500 yards (sorry I don’t do metric shooting). I don’t have a bipod for the tavor, so I half-ass mounted a versapod as best I could, which was not very good as you can see in the picture below. I also grabbed my wife’s half empty corn filled microwaveable bed bag to use as a makeshift sandbag. I don’t know the velocity of my load, so I guessed 2800fps and came up 11MOA and fired 3 rounds; they were too high, so I dropped down a bit and then fired these 5 shots which ended up too low. Three shots are on the paper, two are below indicated with arrows; the other holes are from previous shooting. The grid is exactly 1".

Things in my favor:
-good optics
-no wind at all

Things not in my favor:
-scope rings are way too low for the rifle and forced me to pretty much lay my head sideways on top of the rifle
-it was getting a bit dark out when I was shooting
-my wifes bag was a lot better than nothing, but not nearly as good as a sandbag
-cheap, new, unfireformed brass
-and most importantly I am not a skilled long range shooter!

Nice Shooting Lloyd... I'm not a long range guy, so for me the accuracy of the the Tavor to my Looooong range distance of 100m is more than adequate... And it's non restricted status allows me to take it where I want and use it legally without the accompanying conditions associated to a restricted rifle.

I've had my share of AR's, and I enjoyed them immensely, but they are not as useful to me as my NR rifles. To keep the post somewhat on topic, I'd suggest to the OP, that he secure a left hand bolt from somewhere (CanAm???) and try the gun in the profile suited to his bias.
 
Nice shooting Lloyd. I think you'll find if you increase the rounds included in your groups, you'll see the overall size spread out... Regardless, if someone isn't inclined to shoot at that distance then all of that doesn't really matter.

;) Well, I'll retract my statement of the SR-15 being more accurate than the Tavor if someone can post actual proof that the Tavor is as capable of similar accuracy as the SR-15. Also, my groups can be seconded by about a dozen people on this board.

Maybe it isn't the gun... perhaps it's the shooter...;) I was on a course stateside - somewhere in the middle of the south if you get my drift... and instructors, for kicks and giggles were shooting empty ammo boxes off the ground, and up in the air... from 25 yards, with a pistol, from the hip...I'm pretty sure the gun really didn't have anything to do with the results other than a minor role in delivering the projectile...
