Intermittant use of corrosive primer ammo

Corrosive or not, my SKS only gets cleaned a few times a year, it can be months between shooting and cleaning. So far any "rust" that has ever formed on her has always cleaned right up.
 
all i shoot is corrosive ammo out of my cz858s. windex, hot water, blow drier. then clean and oil. all mine are as new. then again my buddy shoots same ammo with his sksd and don't clean it much at all! calls me to fix his rifle. it's up to you. gas system sees most of the rust
 
It would be smart to run a oily swap down the bore to pervent rust "if your going to shoot in the next 24hrs" Longer then that, clean it properly AND CLEAN YOUR CHAMBER VERY WELL WITH SOLVENT!

you dont need the hot water and blow dryer with windex -
unless you are an ice junkie AND NEED WORK -

Just cleaned mine.. went 5000rnds corrosive. Some how my gun did not turn to dust.


..Keep it oiled; don't freak out. It's a battle rifle, not a rolex. It likes to be dirty, it shoots better dirty, it's made to be dirty... Oil, wipe, store.
 
Got around 80 rounds of corrosive through mine, cleaned it same day.

Inspected it before leaving, no rust.
Took it up quading last weekend, Shot it Friday night and Saturday for around 100 rounds. Cleaned it Sunday and the end of the piston has signs on rust. The part of the gas system that is built onto the barrel was COVERED in rust.
Now it was 25* out, and i did do some mudding, but i did have the end of the barrel taped at all times.

I guess I will have to clean it virtually everyday.
 
I lent out my rifle to a buddy who lived out of town. and he said he cleaned it after shooting it but really did not. It sat in his safe for three weeks before It came back to me. It was dirty but no rust. I had an Sks once that I never thought of cleaning the gas area. Sure enough there was a ring of rust around the gas tube but It was mostly surface rust and came off. With my CZ, I think the chromed lined barrel saved my gun from pitting the barrel and rust in General. I think Climate has a big part to. Where I live it is nice an dry. Never less I clean my Rifle after every range outing. He said he oiled the gun after shooting it so that might have helped as well.
 
I use Ed's Red. If I'm out for several days or longer I give a quick wipe of the barrel, chamber and gas piston especially on SKS. It only takes a minute or so to do with any cleaner/solvent. Rarely get signs of rust. Its not a big deal at all. I give it a better cleaning when I get home after weeks of out in the bush or shooting hundreds of rounds.
 
I clean mine every outing because each outing is usually 400-600 rnds in a few hours :) Just a ritual I do after a range visit I clean all my funs (typo is on purpose)

Yep. Don't waste your money on non-corrosive ammo. Just buy a kettle and dump hot water all over carbon exposed parts and dry it off nicely. Plus get some nice & cheap lube to soak her with between use if shooting's are longer than a week and this rifle will long out live you and your children;)
 
Well then I'd suggest you get yourself a gallon of CLP and keep it with you on the boat (I'm assuming the rifle resides mostly on the boat also), spray the crap out of the rifle inside and out, repeat at least once a week or after firing.

She'll spray oil all over the place whenever you fire her so always wear glasses, but she won't jam or rust on you.
