Thanks guys. Hey hey hey, don't be knocking the carpet in my den!! There is a reason behind the choice and colour. It helps hide the evidence left behind by my constantly shedding Yellow Lab Tikka. She's my buddy.
Based on what? Test reports I read over on AR place it behind the Rem Mag and well behind the capabilities of the Rigby.

Here's data Re: the .416 Ruger. This info is straight from Hornady test lab supposedly. If this is legit, I don't see people rushing out for this, seein' as how the majority seem to want 'bigger-faster', and this ain't it...

If there is an issue with short mags it would have to be long bullets.
The 416 400s are about as long as it gets.
I suspect the results would be bitterly disappointing with a 400gr TSX.
The long action 416 Remington could care less about a long bullet.
The 416 Rem will get well over 2400fps with almost any powder.
RL-15 will get you close to 2500fps.
I suspect RL-17 will show even more.

That Ruger data is with a 20" barrel.

My standard 400 gr. load in my Rem. Mag goes 2450+ fps. It is not hot in any way. Back in '90 when I had my first one put together there was no data around and I pushed them even faster. No problems at all. Took my first Elk with a 300 gr. X bullet at 2950 fps. I just whacked a Grizzly with the 350 TSX loafing along at 2535 fps. Hammered it to the ground. Out of my Rigby's I shot the 350 TSXs at 2850 fps. Never got a chance to use it on anything but I bet it would have worked. My buddy used a Taylor for quite a while, very good round with the lighter bullets. Good with the big ones too but I don't get how everyone says the Taylor goes 2400 no problem but the Rem. is operating at high pressure to do the same? 416s are not for everyone but if you shoot big stuff often enough to be able to use them properly they are awsome for big critters.

I just bought an oddball custom mould on Ebay, custom lathe bored unit, weighs in supposedly around 525 gr., .418 dia. flat pt, gas check. Aluminum block.A whole lot on the heavy side, but what the heck, try her out. The fella I bought it from says RL 15, and keep it moving as fast as reasonably possible, or it wouldn't stabilize.

I would be a hair nervous of a powder like RL15 as once you get enough in there to fill the case you'd have fairly healthy pressures. But I bet they do make the 300 grainers whistle right along. Just not sure I see the point of pushing that hard.

Kinda looking for a happy medium, I'm not looking for a fire breathing load as much as I'm looking for just enough vel. to stabilize it, decent accuracy without paying an arm and a leg for jacketed practice rds.
