Going camping on the prairies this weekend, and I am worried that I might get attacked if I inadvertently sneak up on a mother gopher with pups. I had planned on bringing my BPS in 12 gauge, with a round of #4 buck, then three slugs, and finally another #4 buck. Is this the right blend for these critters?

I will be carrying a large bowie on my belt in case it sneaks up behind and I cannot swing the barrel around fast enough.

I do have an enfield, but I figure that the pump gun will cycle faster than a bolt when things go crazy in the grass.

What does everyone else carry for gopher protection when wandering through pasture land?

You can never be too careful.

Take a Lee Enfield, 10 quick rounds, mount bayonet, charge. I was attacked by a groundhog once. Lots of biting and scratching, it was horrible. The groundhog even got in few bites. I still have nightmares. Very few have survived an attack and lived, I'm one of the few. I'd show the scars but you'd get light headed and faint.(Pussy) One last piece of advice, they charge when wounded.

My brother in-law is with the Canadian Forces. I could have him roll in a couple of CF-18's for ground attack/SP /nape , for you if that will help you sleep better at night on the lone prairie ? Them gophers take a lot of killin.
