Just curious, what do you think it would cost to build a top notch long range shooter (f-class type rig).

Considering this to be your personal gonna keep it and try and win everything type rifle. The best of everything you know.

$1500 +
$2500 +
$3500 +
$4500 + ,,,,, ? How much
Stock, Action, Barrell, Trigger, Scope, Mounts everything.
I'd like to see what people think here.

I think If I had the money I would just by one already Built like a Cheytac M200 Intervention or AI L96A1. The other week I got to handle a AMP Technical Services DSR-1 and man thats a nice gun.

I'm building my first F-classer.

Barnard action $1,100
Jewel trigger $350
Krieger barrel $450
Robertson Stock $400
Stock Toys $500
Gunsmith related $800

So somewhere around $4,000.00 for a nice rifle.

Might as well add in for a Remple, 12-42 Nightforce, rings, Redding dies, and a rear bag (if you don't already have one).....I'd estimate another $3,000.00

From recent personal experience building my once in a lifetime F class dream gun I have to say well in excess of $8000 all inclusive. This estimate is based on starting from scratch, compiling all the components, hiring a smith to build the complete gun and adding in all the required shooting accessories. My estimate includes all rifle components (inc. every nut bolt and screw, duty, shipping, etc.) including optics, and other related items such as joystick front rest, front and rear bags and intial investment in brass and dies etc. Bullets, primers and powder are extra.

The rifle only

Not looking for accessories, just the rifle, the part that goes bang and spits out bullets.
btw,
$400 you wish, for a Robertson stock it's just the beginning, laff.

Although this thread is cool, it is also a bit unnerving... I hope those that are considering F-Class aren't fooled into thining that they NEED to spend this money, furthermore, those who do are certainly guaranteed only to impress us with what they spent.

Success comes from a combination of good loading, good barrels good optics and PRACTICE!!

I've seen many austere customized Remingtons beat the pants off customs.

This gun of mine (Less the scope and bipod) was built for a hair under 2 grand.

Well I have $4000 into a scope, action and barrel..nothing else..
Surgeon
Nightforce
Krieger

Not a full blown F-class..but should shoot

Rem 700 action - $400
Krieger bbl - $400
GBF stock - $1050
Sightron scope - $1000
Rail/rings - $100
Jewell - $280
Smithy - $750

Around 4 grand. My 6BR should be making its debut at Vokes this July. :)

I set my older son up with a Factory Savage in 6 BR we added rings and a scope and it shoots great.
Rifle $1100
Scope/ rings /mounts $2000

The origional idea behind the post was to see what people THOUGHT it cost to build a full blown "OPEN" class rig.
I've got one for sale and I'm finding everyone that showed interest before they knew the price is scared off now because of the price when actually it's $1000 UNDER the build price with no taxes and only 150 rds down the pipe. Go figger !?

Sportco 44, LH single shot action, laminate stock, Shultz & Larsen barrel and target trigger - included, price - $495, 12X40mmAO Weaver scope, rings and bases, price - $325, 1" group at 300yds with Lapua D46 bullets - priceless, good enough for me. I am sure the better shooter would do even better than that.

Stevens Action: 200$
Shilen Select Match BBL:450$
B and C Medalist Stock: 250$
Bushnell 4200: 500$
Burris Sig Z rings: 80$
Weaver Mounts: 20$
Gunsmith: 0$

Total 1500$

Where do you get a Stevens action for $200? Or is that the after price, once you have flogged the factory barrel and stock?

You are paying too much for rings, my last set of Sig Z's were $50 and the Weaver bases were about $5 each.:D

You would probably want a new trigger for F class, as well.

Right on! Great way to get into target shooting; the deals are definitely out there.

6mmbr.com gun of the week #75. Will be designing a new stock sometime.

Because I built my own stock, around $1000/1200 sans optics gear. Holding the V bull is up to me. The rifle is capable.

There are a number of ways to drive them into the Vbull with a build budget range that is massive. At the end, you will end up with a rifle that can shoot in the 2's with some that will shoot in the 1's at 300m

The key issue is doping the winds. Few shooters can shoot as well as their rifles are capable of under match conditions.

And that takes trigger time... no gear can replace that.

Well, maybe a bucket load of barrels :)
