Dishwasher m14 warning.

:)Lessoned learned....Opportunity out of adversity. Nice save and honestly the pricing on these guns makes 'em great for tinkering on and you sure took that to heart!

old thread.

Saw this rehashed today and it made me think of this other thread I was reading on vehicle restoration forums. An Electrolysis based rust removal machine.

That M1A might have made a great test case for such a contraption.

Electrolytic derusting is pretty neat... I highly recommend trying it. But they don't come out looking all shiny usually; I think that might be a post-wire-wheel picture. It's a great way to derust hardware for parkerizing though, since sandblasting a few hundred bolts is enough to drive me nuts!

Get it... bolts... nuts... BADOOM PSHH!

Agreed. After electrolytic de-rusting, the part will come out covered in a black slime-like substance that will wipe off easily with steel wool or a fine wire wheel. It also will not damage the original surface any more than the rust already has, unlike sandpaper or blasting which does remove some virgin material.

Ya.

In the original article he mentions clean up with the wire wheel.

Still. Impressive....
