HOW TOO'S of buying restricted

Hello Folks

I'm considering purchasing a norinco m4 from Marstar and have some questions about doing so. I presently have a restricted pal but would like to know what other permits, licenses or requirements would be necessary to get it home

Buy it. Send them your rpal info. You need an ATT. Once it arrives at the postal outlet, go pick it up, don't open it until you get home. Then it falls under storage regs. To go shoot it, you need an ATT to transport to an approved range.

Just to clear something up, you don't NEED to be a member or a range. I own 4 restricted's and never have had a membership. I do however go to a few ranges on a regular basis to shoot. Should mention i'm living in BANtario as well

In Ontario you do not need to be a club member to have restricted transfers completed. However, for obvious reasons you will not be able to shoot any of those restricted firearms until you join a club.

You could still own, and shoot, your restricted units without belonging to a club.
You would simply have to call, and request, an ATT each time you went to an approved range to shoot.
It's just so much simpler to join a club, which entitles you to a 'blanket' ATT that covers all of the trips.

You don't need to be a member of a club to buy restricted. You can buy restricted firearms as a collector. People do it all the time.

You don't even need a firearms license to buy a restricted. You need one to have it transferred to you.

Collectors status is a slippery slope. Whats the theme of your collection? How many do you have in your collection?

A Norinco M4 is hardly a collectable and with one in the collection it isn't a collection.

Join a club and shoot it.

Yes you can but one as a collector, but the way you wrote this may make people think you can just claim collector status and everything will be fine. It won't.

There is no way they are just going to take your word at face value that you are a collector and waive other requirements to be a member of a range. Go ahead and try it. I asked about it once after I moved provinces and was not a range member and the guy on the phone from the firearms office started talking about these collector tests you need to take to officially get the status, etc.

And then there is the issue where being a collector involves allowing the CFO to roll up and inspect your collection at will. I can't say I know this to be 100% true, but being a collector DOES garner more interest from the CFO IMO.

Being a collector is non viable until you've been certified as a collector already. Otherwise, range membership IS required or they won't transfer.

this whole topic really irks me, I've had my r/pal for 2 years now and havent bought any restricted guns because im not a member of a handgun club, i havent joined a handgun club because i don't own anything that i could shoot there. I also dont want to just go out and buy a handgun and have the cfo reject the transfer

Nothing personal, but unless you have a 405 or related prohibition on your license, they cannot refuse you.

YOU DON'T NEED TO BE A MEMBER OF A CLUB TO BUY A RESTRICTED HANDGUN/LONG GUN AND TO POSSESS IT.

YOU DON'T NEED A FIREARMS LICENSE TO BUY A FIREARM!

BUYING AND ACQUIRING ARE TWO TOTALLY SEPARATE THINGS.

Just buy your gun, tell them you're buying it as a collector, get your STATT, and get it to your house. When you're ready to shoot it, either:

1. Go as a guest to a club with a friend and shoot your restricteds. (after you get your conveyance)

2. Join a club.

People, stop listening to the Lieberal fear-mongering. If you've gone through the hoops to get restricted added to your license, go buy a restricted firearm. Go buy ten! :)
