I have a 12in Grizzly and I wanted to put a pistol grip on it, I know its not that practical but I just love the way it looks. My problem is that when I put the grip on the firearm is only 23 inches over all length and anything under 26 is illegal right? So what i want to know is there a way I can put a muzzle break or a bayonet to add a little extra length the make it legit?

Other than a longer barrel, no. Muzzle breaks, bayonets and the like don't count towards barrel length or overall length. However, I don't think it being less than 26 inches makes it illegal, just restricted, as long as the parts are factory specs, not modifications. You are supposed to notify the CFC if a firearms changes class though.
Yeah it is a pistol grip with no stock. I was just looking around and I saw the knoxx folding stock and it looks like thats what I am going to have to go with. I find it kind of frustrating that I bought them both at the same time saying I was going to put the grip on it and the guys at the store didnt give me a heads up. This sucks I haven't even fired this thing yet, so does anyone have a Knoxx folding stock for an 870 they wanna sell?
I may be mistaken but was under the impression that the folding stock would still be prohib if it makes the overall length under 26 inch (folded...I don't know what the overall length with the folded knoxx would be)...but I'm sure some of the more knowledgeable guru's will chime in shortly...
When it's folded it's just over 26 inches if my memory serves.. I was looking at getting one, but I just can't get past the look of the knoxx stock. I just don't like it :\

Once you install the pistol grip, you have 30 DAYS to notify the CFC/CFO of the "modification". You have technically rendered the shotgun "restricted" although there is some differing opinions about that.
If you were to *ahem* re-install the full length stock, you "reset" the clock and the shotgun is once again non-restricted. You may, the following day, re-install the pistol grip and you will once again have 30 DAYS to notify the CFC/CFO.
Our laws were written by a bunch of idiots, do not seek "logic" as there is none.
And just "when" did you install the pistol grip? 2 days ago? Or was it 3 weeks ago? Or maybe 30 minutes ago?
And BTW, with the pistol grip installed, it's 22"

The Knoxx collapseable stock works well on the Grizzly. You can still shoot it like a pistol grip and shoulder it too and it's about 32" or so.

how about the knoxx pistol grip reducer it has that extra part that adds length to the pistol grip which adds over all length to the shotgun and when you grip it it's above your hand i think to reduce the recoil i saw a female cop shoot it on youtube with noo problems at all and it still is a pistol grip only i was thinking of doing that ?
Was talking to the RCMP techs in Ottawa on Friday for something else and brought up that very question. Yes you have 30 days to register it, no you cannot take it to the range during that time. (it is still an unregistered restricted firearm) and yes once you register it as a restricted firearm it cannot be changed back. I had my wingmaster amended to cover my 12.5 Dlask barrel and they specifically asked if I was putting a pistol grip on it and that it would change the classification. I don't like pistol grips in any case (although they do look good) but a reclassification of a shotgun to restricted would make it virtually un saleable.
Can you recall who it was you spoke to?
There shouldn't be any problem registering a firearm back to non restricted as long as its meets the specification.
One of the techs there told an imports of SKS's that the letters are not required as part of the serial number. So they all go for review when transfered because of duplicate numbers.

The issue is; once a handgun, always a handgun. You cannot turn a charger into a 10/22.
Honestly it seems to me that the law has a pretty obvious leak on shotgun classification.
I mean, when you buy this shotgun the pistol grip comes with the package...loll...

these threads are a pet peeve of mine. there are dozens of threads on CGN full of speculation on the 'or otherwise' part of the 660mm OAL length definition, and on whether or not that includes installing a pistol grip.
unless you can provide legal precedent showing that this is in fact legal, or are willing to set one yourself, you are continuously spreading very dangerous misinformation.
there are a lot of impressionable new shooters on this site and judging by the amount of threads on the topic one of their main areas of confusion is barrel length/OAL. posting speculation such as assurances that pistol grip shotguns under 660mm are perfectly legal, or that you can swap it on and use it for 30 days without reporting it - then reset the counter by swapping stocks again - is incredibly irresponsible and stupid.
have any of you OAL experts actually set a legal precedent yourself? or walked down to your local police station with a <660mm shotgun to prove your point? backed your theories up with fact? put up or shut up and stop preaching this stupid sh*t.

the fact that an extra pistol grip came included in the package is irrelevant.
a cop doesnt need a ruler to see that an 8.5" barreled shotgun with a pistol grip is restricted. theyre not going to magically appear at your home the moment you screw a PG onto your 8.5" shotgun, but the fact remains that you are creating an unregistered restricted weapon by doing this.

The OAL isn't the issue. The reason it is restricted is because its considered a handgun with the pistol grip installed.
The Puma Bounty Hunter is under 660mm and non-restricted. Also the backpacker sold by Frontier last year was under 660mm and non-restricted. If you walked to the police station with either of those, you could just laugh at the police because they couldn't do jack #### to you.
