Drug the toys out to the range today.

Factory Savage LRPV in .223
Nightforce 5.5-22 x 50 NP-R1

69gr SMK with 25.8gr Varget

Target is at 300yds (if i remember correctly it is 5" wide and 10" long, i placed it last year and haven't hiked back in since)

I guess the rain dosent do much with accuracy. Make think I should get a bolt action Precision Rifle for Wood long shot. How bad were the musquitos ?

Just enough wind to keep the bugs away, I will set up Citronella candle for the rest of the season.

Ya, I wouldn't bother with the 77 SMK in a 9 twist. I believe in up to 75. But the SMK's are also expensive, and I'm cheap.

Yes its a 1 in 9 barrel, i have a 1 in 8 ready to replace the factory barrel when i burn it out.

As for the sierra bullets, the 77 grain and even the 80 grain bullets seen to stabilize quite well out to 300 yards. I have a 600 and 800 yard spot picked out but haven't scared up the time to go and play there yet.

For my 1 in 9 I figured the best range of bullets would have been in the 62 to 77 grain range.

you just played the second shot over and over again

that silver spot doesn't get any bigger

good shooting

the Trail you see in the 300 yard shooting is freaking cool.

the 77's seem to stabilize fine in that 1-9.

So i have been tuning my load development.

I did a OCW test and switched to federal match primers.

This evening i tried for "best" 5 shot group at 100 and 200 yd.

Jerry mentioned that i should confirm the chosen load of 25.8gr Varget is consistently stable from 100yd to 300yd.

The local range is limited to 200yd for easy (read lazy) access to paper targets.

I think i shot 7 groups at 100 and 5 groups at 200.

I picked the best 3 groups at 100 and 200 and threw it all together in a video.
