Very few regular M14 rifles had the fun switch installed. The majority of M14 rifles had shaft locks installed after the rifle was found to be uncontrollable in automatic. The shaft lock is what the kit on my rifle is made out of (demilled of course). Its purpose was to lock the selector shaft with that little button so it could not be rotated to automatic and remained in semi auto only.
The real joke was when they prohibited the real usgi M14, as they all had shaft locks and were welded up also.

Looks almost identical to the one I made up.
Why did you need to JB weld anything to the front of the transfer bar? The original GI guns had the same pin types as the Norcs, the bottom wing on the x-fer bar keeps the pin shut without needing that aluminum do-hickey
So how much is GI on yours? Everything but the receiver?
Did you re-parkerize it?

I think you may be confusing the short pin length on usgi guns with NM rifles as this was a national match mod for bedding the action.
On a GI rifle the pin also retains the connector arm and sticks out about 1/8 of an inch. On NM rifles they were ground flush with the receiver to get full bedding contact on the right hand rail.
I had a 1.5mm gap between the receiver/pin and the connector arm tab when everything was tight in the stock so I added the shim. Now it all fits like a glove and that pin stays in perfectly. Could be my stock was worn down more than yours in that area.
I did not repark it that's the finish it came with (2009 Poly)
All GI except receiver, gas system and the TG which is getting USGI guts this weekend.
Gas system works so nice on this rifle there was no need to replace it.

Yup, the gas system was unitized by the doc (shimmed and welded). I was blown away when I shot a 3" group with it @ 300m two weeks ago (USGI barrel and M118 special ball, from the prone).
M14 rifles don't need scopes!!
(I had Lasik done a few years ago).I'm perfectly capable of hitting targets out to 500m with irons, more fun that way IMHO
My plan for this rifle build was to replicate the real thing as close as possible and It looks mighty convincing in that first pic.

Have a real semi'd Winchester with the fibreglas stock and nothing done to it. S'ok, but I prefer my M1. I find the muzzle jump is excessive. Buddy of mine put a brake on it. Muzzle jump went away. I'd have to look to see what barrel is on it.
