I mean come on!!! Back to back to back we get 3 sweet looking .22's and
I am definately gettin one. Anyhow, between the S & W m&p 15-22, The Ruger SR22, or the Remington VTR 597 which one do I get?
They all look great, so , anyone care to chime in on Reliability? Parts quality?
Repair in Canada depots?? Price vs quality, etc etc? Why the hell can't these guys just leave well enough alone. ;)

I say no to the Remington because of quality issues, and give the edge to Ruger because its not restricted and has great aftermarket support. But for a cool range only toy, the S&W would be nice.

I must say, looking at the Remington, its a hell of a lot better looking than the stock 597.
Jeezus, Thats one homely lookin gun. Just sumpin 'bout that stock. I haven't been mightily impressed with Remingtons output lately. Total skidmarks in the shorts when it comes to quality control. I was out with a friend lately who had a brand spankin new model 700 vtr?? (the green rifle in .308 win with the triangular barrel and built in muzzle break) just to help him sight it in with a new scope he bought at the same time.
The first shot he took was about 10 inches from the bull high and a couple inches right.
He adjusted the scope a few inches left ONLY , not up/down.....just to get it on the center line. It put the shot off the paper altogether. What? Next shot was about 4 inches lower than the bull and it was keyholed. I told him to stop, and said the barrel must be really fouled or something and he took the bolt out and we looked. Anyhow, there was only a couple of inches of shallow rifling from the chamber (maybe 4 grooves out of 6) and then for the next 18-20 inches is nothing but shiny bore. NO RIFLING. How can a gun leave the factory and no one notices that it doesn't actually contain ANY real rifling. Need to start doing urine testing at the factory , no???

I have only handled them but the Ruger looks and feels way better than the Remmy.

That being said the S&W is a freakin beauty. But restricted :(

Not too concerned over the restricted status as I have that on my PAL. BUT, being able to hunt small game is definately a plus. I didn't really look too hard before posting this poll, I just assumed they were all restricted for some reason?? ( I guess they looked enough like black rifles to qualify in my mind)
Keep the votes coming. ........

We bought on of the Ruger SR rifles and although I mounted the scope so low I can't really shoot the rifle very well, my 11 year old shoots this rifle very well. We have only put about 1 brick through it and it functions very well. The new models that P&D have in stock came with the adjustable stock. FS

I voted S&W cause that is what I want from the list.
But I already have a 10/22.
So the ruger or S&W is my vote.

.

If non-restricted is in your criteria then the Ruger.

If you want practice your AR carbine drills on the cheep then S&W. Its the only one where all the controls match the AR, including the slide stop.

Colt/Umarex is close but the slide stop dosn't function. It is made of metal so the balance/feel is better. I think the 30rnd mag looks alittle goofy long.

Never looked at the Remington.

The S&W feels like a toy to me. It is just soo light and plastic feeling. Probably because its all plastic. LOL. Anyways I would go with the Ruger myself. I was about to buy one when I found this beauty. Its a Ruger 10/22 Target Tactical. Same price as the SR22, and alot more accurate. I love this gun. Comes with a bipod, and rail, hogue overmolded stock, and 16 inch bull barrel.

If you want to hunt a small game, it cuts your choice to Ruger Sr22 or VTR597. This is exactly the reason why I didn't order S&W and went with Rem.

Easy answer to the original question. The SR-22 by a huge margin. Non-restricted, and available high-quality, high-capacity magazines which in a rifle like this is a must. Neither of the competitors can offer this combination.
