TOkGUY, there is a special mount for POSP scopes that fits Mosin-Nagant style of actions it sales for $20-$30 range

Thanks for the input guys. So far it seems that POSP was the tragic victim here.

Still I'd like to hear specifics from anyone who's had a bad experience.

TeaPot2,

While we at it... which scope(s) is calibrated for 7.62x39 ?
There's lots of misleading information on the net regarding elevation scale, adjustment and BDC.

Can you elaborate?

Thanks,

Also, do you carry a 7.62x39 calibrated, adjustable diopter, SVD mount, model?

They calibrated in minutes of angle. Could be used with any caliber. For elevation adjustment all you need to know your caliber bullet drop at the range.

I ain't no POSP expert but this model if sighted in @ 100 meter's is bang on for 200 meter's and 300 meter's using the chevron BDC reticale and 123 grain norinco out of a CZ 858.
POSP 4x24M

Thanks! I should have asked specifically about BDC (chevron) calibration... But I see the answer now. ^^^^

Hmmm.... so it's 4x24M... is there a PRO model of this one available? I like 12.5mm/click better than 50mm/click.

BTW, there are still military versions (PSO?) floating around, with non-linear adjustments for elevation (1- 100m, 2 - 200m, etc.) for sniper 7.62x54 rounds... and extra bonus - built-in IR filter.

It's "linear" - one click 1.8 MOA or about 50 mm on 100m; 100 mm on 200m; etc.
Between digits on a turret there are 2 clicks. Every two clicks would give 10 cm (or 50 mm each click) adjustment at the 100 meters range. At the 200 meters range it will make 20 cm per two clicks (or 100 mm per click) and so on..If you out of clicks (or too lazy to click) between each chevron 100 meters in range.

I have couple PRO (one click 12.5 mm ) models in stock but they are 8x42 Weaver version and something else either in 6x42 or 8x42, I need to check. for some reason they were not in demand, and I stopped ordering them. Can bring them anytime. so far PRO was not available on 4x magnification...

PSO made by NPZ (Novosibirsk, Russia) POSP made by Belomo (Belarus). They are pretty much same scopes. few minor differences like voltage, battery type, etc... Both factories produce great optics. While NPZ keeps proudly Russian, Belomo is a Zeiss partner. They formed a joint company "JV Zeiss BelOMO GmbH Belorussian-German joint venture" few years ago.

Good info, thanks! :)
Here goes my idea to put a skinny 4x24 scope on your new 858 rail and have 1/2MOA adjustments.
I'd better PM you with the rest of the questions as they come.

It's a pity these ex-Soviet factories can't do some more R&D and product development, not to mention market research. IOR Bucharesti started from the same point they did when the Wall came down, so to speak, and look where they are now comparatively.

It tooks ages for them to even offer a range scale in something other than 7.62x54R. How hard would it be to make interchangeable range scales for different cartridges for example??

They really can make very good stuff, but they seem to have almost zero interest in the Western consumer market.

I will have to update picture of that CZ rail as we modified it slightly. It has a CFO friendly "window" in the middle part now. When rail installed on CZ 858, the rifle serial number is clearly visible through the opening.

Can anyone comment on installation of these scopes to an SKS?

I recently just installed a tapco stock to my SKS (chinese elwood epps) and some of the pins had to be ground and drilled out in order to complete what was supposed to be a drop- in modification. I'm just worried about the complexity of the installation of the POSP.

Did guys that have installed them find it reasonably straightforward or did you have a gunsmith do the drilling and tapping? Are there alternatives to drilling and tapping?

Installation is easy, but you have to use a drill press. Hand held drills are NOT recommended

It is just not working, Canadian tire has their cheap drill press on sale right now for $59.99, good deal, the little bigger one often comes on sale for $89.99.

Both can do the job.

I put a POSP scope on my 858 but,as expected, the empty case hit the scope sometime. No effect on scope itself but the finish get scratched. Here's my "low tech" solution to protect the scope, not pretty but very cost effective. Perfect for a red rifle setup! I wrap a band of rubber, from and old tire tube, and wrapped some electrical tape. So if tape can hold 2 mags together well good to help protect from case hit. After all, its only case hit,not hammer blow!:)
