Mounting torque

As the title says , what is the amount of torque you would use on your rings to attach it to the rail. I cannot seem to find any single number. All help is greatly appreciated, thanks....

It's going to depend upon the manufacturer(s).

Check the instructions that came with the rings, or - if it isn't to be found there - ask the manufacturer(s).
 
Leupold Mark 4 and Nightforce rings are torqued onto the base at 65" lbs but this would be way to much on many other makes so make sure of your numbers and your make before snapping off the bolt. Phil.

Fair enough on the bases and rings but would be concerned about 65in/lb on the action screws if anything other than a good quality synthetic stock or a wood stock that is not pillared/bedded.

If a standard wood stock 25in/lb may be more appropriate. May also find 50in/lb sufficient for a synthetic stock.

BTW, may want to ensure that torque setting is in inch/pounds on the wrench, if in foot/pounds it may produce an unfortunate result if not translate inches to feet.

Having considered different options to measure torque, I found that a wrench calibrated in Ft/LB. is inaccurate to use for in-lb. Noting that you multiply ft/lb by 12 to get in-lb, I realized I will be utilizing the very low end of the scale which makes it inaccurate.

Hopefully you do have one in in-lb. Good luck.
 
Yeah, got an inch/pound wrench, but I was told 65 was the correct number, IT IS NOT !!! New rings in the post as we speak. Learn something new everyday. Thanks for all of the replies guys....
 
I phoned Bushnell today, and after asking the question " what is the correct torque", got the reply " I have never been asked that question before". After some wait time on hold he came back with, "35 to 43 inch/pounds, but I cannot guarantee that". Other than that a very nice gentleman who was very happy to try and help me, so there. I am going to try and start at around 30 to 35 and see how that goes. Again thanks for the replies.
 
just went to SNIPER CENTRAL HERE IS SOME DATA.

the 4 small #8 screws on the top of the 30mm ring can be torqued to 20 inch pounds and the (4) small #6 screws on the top of the 1" ring can be torqued to 10 inch pounds. If the base uses four #6 screws they can be torqued to 15 inch pounds These inch pounds settings are not large numbers. Do not tighten any more then necessary as it could damage your scope. PLEASE CHECK YOUR TORQUE WRENCH TO MAKE SURE IT IS INCH POUNDS AND NOT FOOT POUNDS!

Only the large cross bolt that attaches the ring to the base should be torqued to 65 inch pounds.

NIGHT FORCE 65 INCH POUNDS ...Bushnell less..saw article stated 45 or less..also from the site some recomend a yankee dollar placed over the scope . After installation the dollar should slide out.
