Hi,

I recently purchase and installed a Williams front Firesite for my SKS. The first time I took it out to test it, I put 40rds down the tube before calling it a day. I took it out today, shot about 60rds and the fiber optic came flying out. I ended up selling my original windage drum and sight post, so I don't have a back up to replace it.

What would be the best way to repair it? crazy glue ... jb weld? Would a tritium tube fit in there .. lol

I just installed the same sight-haven't shot it yet. What I would like to know is should I apply some epoxy BEFORE it flys out]Hopefully Williams will supply a replacement for jt

I bought one from SKSman, the rear sight snapped while I was trying to put it in. No reply at all in regards to warranty. I just glued it on, not sure if it will hold. Not going to do much more now as it was not that much money. No service I guess.

I purchased mine though Elwood Epps. I was thinking about asking them about warranty work or replacement through Williams. But I was just thinking that gluing it back together may just be the best way to go at this time. For $30 it's not worth my time to ship back and wait. I was hoping that someone one here had the same problem and came up with a quick fix.

Or alright replacing the optic with a tritium vial (1.5mm x 5mm) instead. I recall Satian mentioning that in another thread. But for now I just need to get it back up and running. I love shooting it. :D :p

I have spare fiber optic's if you need. But what I do to make sure they don't come flying back out is a little dab of crazy glue. As it is clear and will let the light through. As for the tritium I spent $85 USD and got a pair of ameri-glo one's but I moded it to fit in my cz 858 & not my sks's as I two went for the williams set-up. Not to fear though I heard that N.E.A. was going to release these soon. Although for shooting iron sight's I still love my rear sight and won't probaly ever part with it. It's ment for an RPK except I painted the hash lines red ;)

I managed to find the fiber optic piece. It took some crawling around on my hands and knees with my face to the ground. After inspecting it, it looks like the flaring they did on it, wasn't very good. I'll try the Krazy Glue route, I just hope the plastic welds good with the aluminum.

That's a nice site. It the rear of it windage adjustable? That was the only drawback of swapping out my front site for the fiber optic one, the loss of my windage adjustment.

My fire sight came lose as well. I just used some pliers and gave one of the rings a slight crimp. A little bit at a time till its snug as to not deform the ring.
I actually didn't mind since I found the mushroom end on the fiber optic a little big. So I just installed it the other way.
Although, I am liking the tritium idea. Are they the ones off ebay?

You are right, the front sight came out when I tried to adjust it and it broke off because I thought it could be bent easily. The spring is too strong.

I was going to braze a nut on the original rear sight to give me a ghost ring, the only problem is you wouldn't have lateral adjustment.

This is why I like but dis-like the williams sight set-up. The first time I took my sks shooting the rear sight dis-assembeled it's self while shooting. Then when I went to clean, the rifle the front post slided out. So since I can't adjust the windage no more on the front post and there rear sight is some were up at Stave lake. I figured that the RPK rear sight, as it seemed like it was the best bang for my buck. All I had to do now was to fix my front sight. With a dab of crazy glue preaty much covering the whole pin I slipped it & let it sit for a couple of day's before shooting it. The RPK rear sight and this front sight mod have been through 1 & a half crates and still working good. The only thing I am missing now is an optic that is short enough to use the stripper clip guide but won't crap out on me. Well that's for another thread and let's hope N.E.A. release's these new & improved sight's before winter eh ;)

Williams fire sight

I purchased a Williams front fire sight for my pistol and the same thing happened, the fiber optic came flying out. I tried to reinstall it but it wouldn't hold. I phoned Williams and they sent me replacement fiber optic rods that were much longer. I cut a new piece but a little longer, heated both ends and it's been fine ever since. You can buy fiber optic rods from local gun shops, cut it with wire snips, heat the ends and I used glue for archery fletchings.

My issue with the Williams Firesight is that there is no adjustment for windage. I love the fibreoptic feature but find I have to offset my POA to the right for me to hit the target so I may give up on it and paint the original adjustable post with glow-in-the-dark nail polish.

I had one of the Tech 200 sights and came back to the russky issue sights - with the tech 200, it was only calibrated for the one range - point blank basically, I didn't want to fiddle around with it so I sold it, since then I did a lot more work (trigger job, bedding etc) and I would not mind trying out a peep sight with the rifle again. Maybe I will buy another tech 200, I don't get the Williams rear peep front fibre optic - I bought a Mojo sight for my SMLE and that was a waste of $ as the aperture was way too small, *no way to make the aperture bigger*. Anyone want to buy it? :D

I have williams fire sights on 3 guns, and find they are hit or miss depending on the gun. On the sks, you give up windage adjust on the front AND can't adjust the height either. This is "remedied" by purchasing the williams sks rear peap sight, which can be adjusted in four directions with set screws, but sacrifices the ability to quickly adjust for different distances. I find it works great @ 100m, but sucks for anything greater, as you have to employ "kentucky windage" shooting techniques. sks + williams= fail. But it looks pretty at 100m on a sunny day.

when you take out the screw in aperture on the williams rear peep sight ,the opening just frames the round front sight -perfect for what I want.I just hope it is sturdy enough,I'm thinking of applying some epoxy before it comes loose
