Rumour or truth

it will be reviewed next year at the General Assembly in Greece.

i know modified doesn't exist in USPSA and never shot here in Canada ....but in Europe and Asia its still has a following ... even bigger then the wheelers (sorry) ... I'm going to europe next year and thinking of building a modified but don't want to only get a few months out of it - decisions decisions

Sadly, revolver is becoming the poor kid on the block with each passing year.

Makes the shooting sports worse, not better, IMHO.

Well I don't shoot on the world stage so you might have an insight I don't.
But that said I gotta disagree with you.
More happy shooters is a good thing, adding one more "cut" from within doesn't promote anything positive.
Haven't we divided ourselves enough already?

It doesn't make sense to cut it. If there is a following in a section let it stand how does it hurt anyone outside of that section to leave it in?

One thing they should look at is introducing a single stack and a limited division.

I know that revolver is not shot by many but it IS a valid gun style and deserves to stay on the books.

I guess I'll need to follow through with this and take up shooting revolver in IPSC once I get going.

I'm shooting my first qualifier in two weeks! WOOHOO! ! ! !

I agree, but its far overdue for the IPSC higher ups to really revamp the whole "division" thing IMO.
They should look at new avenues to include shooters instead of the current mentality of exclusion, raining on the 1911 purist is a poor stratagy and compounding the mistake by punishing modified and revolver shooters is just assinine.
IMO (at this time with limited thought put in it) they should only have three pistol divisions with sub catagories within, such as:

OPEN = As it is now, basically anything goes and a catch all for shooters who don't fit other requirements.
Sub Division # 1 = Modified, what ever the current rules are is OK with me.

STANDARD:
Sub Division #1 = As it is now
Sub Division #2 = Single Stack with agreed upon rules unique to these pistols that the majority can live with.
Sub Division #3 = D/A First Shot, Lets forget about calling it "Production", we lost that arms race long ago. Make it simple, minimum trigger pull on first shot and it must be double action, fit in the box, no scopes/comps etc... (do we really care that a guy reblued or bead blasted his slide????)
Sub Division #4 = Revolver, as it is now.

AIRSOFT:
WTF???
:nest:

Nobody is excuded and everyone can play together, dividing up the awards is easy as matches are pre registered for the most part now (IIRC).

Interesting idea...but Modified would make more sense as a subdivision of Open (it's just an open gun that fits in the box)

modified

I shot in modified in my last two level 2's.. I won the match in my division :D:D:D:D:D:D and I was also last :eek: :p ;)

I was getting the dust off my Glock 19 I've modified with magwells, est. this and that...and hybrid ported .. made it modified...it was fun, but the ported barrel really didn't make me more competative ... still felt like i was shooting in std. division...but using reloaded ammo, not higher velocity to take advantage of the ports... again.. just my fun gun...

I think the idea of deleting categories is to help simplify running larger matches.

Even if revolver gets the boot you can still shoot a revolver in IPSC. You will likely be at a disadvantage due to reload times, but if it puts a smile on your face, why not!

Personally I think modified is a great idea, it sure pushes the outer limits of design.

there really be fewer divisions

open - anything goes - make your race gun
Production - "Off the shelf only" standard trigger pull, normal mag wells etc
Revolver

think of it like Nascar, and the Busch series.
