Why No Love for Ruger P-pistols in this forum?

Why no love for P85, P89, P90 or Ruger pistols in general, for that matter?

My P89 and P90 shoot well enough, accuracy wise and have been reliable so far with zero FTF or FTE.

Considering the price you could get them for, brand new or used, I expect to see more interest in these pistols. The few posts I see on these fine pistols do not show much respect for them. Why?
 
I will probably pick up a P89 sometime in the future. I haven't had the chance to shoot one but the one I handled seemed like it was pretty tough. I like guns with heft.

I think a lot of the issue is that they are TDA (traditional double action) they don't have the same trigger pull for each shot, so when it comes to competition you're at a disadvantage. That and the fact that most of the guys who slag them haven't owned one. I found the P90 I had to be very accurate and reliable - and the trigger smoothed out after a while.
 
prolly cuz Ruger is typically associated with a revolver - the sweetest of which is the Bisley Vaquero
 
Ruger P90...

I had one of the very first Ruger P90 .45ACP's that came into Canada circa early 90's IIRC. Trouble was I compared it against the only .45ACP semi-auto platform I was familiar with at the time... the venerable 1911. That and the P90 was a jamma-matic right outta the box. Traded it back to the dealer for something useful after a short time. Unfortunately, I have never been able to warm up to the Ruger P series pistols again after that.

Had a KP345 up until a year or so ago. A fine gun with Williams FO Firesites, smoothed trigger. A real tack driver and comfortable, but I wanted a SIG 1911 more, so off it went..I have great admiration for them.

Now why would anyone start a thread like this that has the potential to drive up the prices of the P89's? ;)

Listen up folks, the P series are like that oatmeal crispy cereal, you wouldn't like them. :) :)
 
at one time or another I have owned a dozen P-series ruger, from p85, p89, p90, p94,p97 .... my favorite by far was the kp89dc model.... or any of the decock only models, safety models seemed to awkward.
 
I have a P-85 in 9mm. I like it. It shoots well and is reliable. The only 2 down sides are;
- it is a real handfull. I have big hands so no prob but the wife find's it a bit much
- I'm not fond of the mag release. sure it's ambi but the damb things arn't practical.
What price are they running for used these days ant way?

I still have my stainless P345. Very accurate and fun gun. Can't bring myself to sell it. I don't know why I don't use it more often. Used to use my P345 for IDPA but as of late I have been taking my G21. I may put the G21 in the safe beside the P345 and get a STI Trojan in .45. Variety is the spice of life! :p

Yeah, I thought about that before starting this thread but curiosity got the better of me. Besides, I'm pretty much set-up with a P90 and a couple of P89s.

Almost everyone agrees that these P pistolas are reliable and possess good to excellent accuracy. A quick Google will show the same in other forums.

As far as chunkiness or blockiness, I compared my P's to a 1911 and a Sig-clone NP58 and aside from the frame being a little wide on top, the P's are the same size. The slide is of course way wider than the 1911's.

Seems that most who replied had a P at one point in their lives but have moved to other models or makes. Most had good things to say but I guess
the P is an obsolete design that really can't compete with the venerable 1911 (old yes, but not obsolete) and the newer striker fired designs. It is a good, durable, reliable and solid gun but the market feels they can get the same qualities in a better handling or more easily tuneable/customizable make/model.

had a p91 in .40 my first pistol that thing was tough i sold it to a friend who also had a p85 so his holster rig worked well with it. yes he is shooting ipsc with it and does ok some call it a boat anchor but they are quiet later on as it does prove itself. I moved on to other models in the end choose the S&W M&P series for my 9mm and .40.
