ok, so i was THIS close to "pulling the trigger" on the STI Spartan this coming week, but i took a step back and thought about it a bit more and how i'd use it, and... i think i'd prefer the shorter Commander barrel, which the Spartan doesn't offer (if they DID, my search would be complete)

for the same price (or less), what are my 1911 options in Commander size?

other than the Norinco, what else is out there? the price of a Nor is ok, but i'd rather not have to then ship it somewhere else to make it right with tweaks (though i suppose if i can just swap one or two parts on my own, that would be OK).

oh, this would need to be totally IDPA legal, so if by "tuning" it i'd end up making it illegal for IDPA, then... i'd want / need a different gun to begin with.

Single stack 45's have their own division (more or less) in IDPA, Enhanced Service Pistol which naturally enough allows, ....enhancements. I'd check around to see if there isn't an already tuned one available - when it comes to Commander sized 1911's the Norc is the only one I'm aware of that comes with a 3 digit price tag.

There's a nice looking Colt on the ee right now, but its above your stated price. Still three digits though.

hmm, yeah, seems there's only a very small number of options in this size and price bracket, and the EE stuff is getting close to $1k.

I know, I'm looking for one too. Almost bought one in .38 super this spring, the seller was asking 750. Bought a Canadian contract Colt, an Ithaca junker and a .22 conversion from him instead. What's keeping me from buying a Norinco is that if one does come up for resale, they want nearly Colt prices (plus Norinco makes really ugly sights).

hmm, so far it seems that i've only found the Norinco to be in that price range. other stuff like Para / STI / Kimber / etc is $800++ and there's not a lot to choose from!
