Swedish M-94 Restoration Project Part 2 W/ Pics

If Drach ever shows up out this way, I have a little bag of original Swedish 156-grain flatbase RNFMJ slugs that he can put in his pocket.

Higginson had a bunch (many zillions, I would think) of these about 30 years ago, just after the 6.5x55 went out of service. I still have a few, not many. About enough for ONE M-94 for an afternoon.

My 96s both eat Remington 140s, think they are dinner.

And Norma BTMs for dessert: think they are candy.

Ouch! Ignore the whimpering; it's coming from my wallet!

Your stock is an original 94 stock (mismatched to your action tho)- the 5 digit serial number confirms that.

This is correct, my wrong. The S/N falls in a grey zone, though, 1915 ending with S/N 64437 and 1916 supposedly starting at 65490. HVA used 6 digits numbers.

Well... what would you suggest then gents? I picked up an M-38 stock... and now you are telling me it's basically useless? I am just wondering what I can do here without spending hundreds of dollars for parts, is this really what I will need to do? Does anyone out there have an M-94 stock, nose cap and barrel band? If you do, please talk to me, I am sure we can work SOMETHING out. I would really like to see this rifle restored someday.

To Smellie: I would be happy to pick that up when I come out there sometime!

Drachenblut,
As I previously explained, there is very little of the M/94 parts for sale; they do sometimes show up, though, but they are very expensive.

The best you economically can perform is to fit a M/38 stock to your skeletonized M/94. This was done before with a little work (wood fitting). It will not (never) look like a M/94, but it will be like a scaled down M/38. Still better than what you get there. Then, maybe, over the years, you may find the right parts and put it back to how it first looked..

Yes, I agree with Baribal, this is not a cheap and easy revival. You can look at it like a long term jigzaw puzzle and make it a quest (its fun to know what you are looking for at gun shows).

It will not come quick or cheap.

TimC - so you were the one that bought the last 2 JUST as I was ordering the same 2 pieces -- ya there are no more left there now.

There was reproduction stocks available at one time for $250 dollars +/- but they are no longer available (as far as I can find) and of course -- many with some parts will not ship out of the USA.

A leather buckle is about $30, disk - $30, etc

94 sporter

This came home with me;

Sadly on taking it to the woods, the screw holding the forend in place had come loose and fell out.
I fired the rifle, the nose cap dissapered into the next county and the forend split.
I managed to get the forend repaired but even with a replacement nosecap it kept flying off. I havent lost anything but my marbles and upon seeing the screw was missing stopped anymore testing and informed my friend the gun smith who will refit the screw if we can find one.
The altered nose cap is being reblacked at work and as soon as we have tested the replacement screw then it should mean the unaltered nosecap is spare!

Gotta admit -- for a "bubba job" (LOL) - that is a very, very nice looking piece of kit!!!

I see you have the original sling as well.

If one was to sporterize a M94 - that is a good way to go!

We believe it was done in the late 20's early 30's and is a very nicely done piece of kit. I have still to get a deer with that one, no doubt my mates will help!
I do get a little miffed when certain person call bubba. It is far in a way a much better conversion than even all of the better quality Parker Hale and BSA .303's. It is almost on par with my .275 Rigby which is made using an Obendorf receiver at about the same time.

If you have trouble with the nose cap flying off - perhaps the front band spring is too loose and / or you may look at putting a screw through the nose cap into the front of the stock (like the Spanish Carbine has for its front sight protector). It may provide more holding power when the thing whips during firing.

I have a 7x57 M94 that has already been drilled for weaver mounts and sporterized - your pictures provide a lot to think about. Restore to original or high end sporter???

Thank you

It is a very nice rifle, and if you have a spare nose cap, would you be interested in selling it by any chance? I would really like to pick one up. It would further my work significantly if I could have a piece of the puzzle. Ok guys, here's an insane question: Where would I go to have a new reproduction stock made for my M-94, and ballpark figure how much would it cost? Any ideas? Where would I get all the details and measurements? I know this will probably take 2 or more years to restore, but that is the beauty behind it. I really do hope to restore it to it's former glory.

Check with some of the folks on this site...as I have seen original stocks pop up for sale every so often.

Also Tim nice rifle. :)

Man I regret not buying the one I found in a gunstore a few years ago. :(

Hello. I have an add up but figured i'd ask here. Who has an M-94 Stock kit, with stock, top wood, barrel band and nose cap? There are a few down south, but I'd rather keep buisness in Canada.

Cheers,
Adrian

A year or two back the Swedish Defence Ministry put out a contract for tender to replace the stocks of the M94 carbines used by the Royal Guards.

If the contract has been completed, whoever did the new stocks might have some. Or some of the old ones might be available.

Ask one of the ePay sellers from Sweden who handle Mauser parts maybe.

It would be nice if a firm like Boyds did a run, it would be advantageous to us but maybe not for them. As Mausers with the thumb notch are no longer allowed to be imported to the US (thanks BATF) the prices when they appear may be lower. I had one in my hands that was almost all matching but the bore was shot out, an easy restoration task but the chap wanted £700. Needless to say it went back. I will trawl the auctions looking for parts and complete rifles.

One of the mods on the board I posted a link to might know.
IIRC the topic has come up over there a while back.

Interesting factoid...Swedish palace guards carry them cocked (safety on) and presumably loaded.

Still one of my top goals is to find one of these rifles intact for sale.

Well. It is a long-term project. I hope to get one someday, I hope in Canada, but in the states, I may have too, within a day I've had 2 offers for complete stock sets, but they are grossly expensive, far above the cost of my carbine purchase.
