Just picked up a Sadlak (Brooksfield type) tactical mount with a Picatinny-style rail (thanks to CGNer Foxtrot) so the next step is to choose a scope.

Now I've never had a rifle with a scope but I have used the odd one, and frankly I've always preferred iron sights, but now I want to tighten up my group at the 100-200 meter targets at the range. No hunting or competition shooting in the forseeable future, just punching holes and ringing gongs. As such I don't want a scope that's 2' long, just something that'll bring that 200 meter zombie cutout up to what the 50-100 meter targets look like with iron.

I know there are different reticule markings but I've no idea what that's all about, I do know I would like something that's precise and ideal in low light conditions as well as full sun. Quick release for iron sight use would be a bonus as the Sadlak mount makes allowances for iron sight use just in case something goes wrong and the zombies get within 50 meters.

Oh and I don't like taking forever to set up a shot. Just bring the rifle to bear and bang.

price range $100-$2k. ;)

Leupold 3-9x40 with QRW rings ... approx $400-$500 and you're set. Usually both are available in the EE section ... ;)

If the budget goes up to $2K, get a nightforce NXS 3.5-15 x 50 F1with mildot reticle in Leupold MkIV rings and call it done.

Personally, I went cheaper. My present setup is a Leupold VX3 3.5-10 that I sent to the custom shop for M1 target turrets and a new mildot reticle. Came in under $1000. It sits in 1" MkIV rings. Looks the part and it's quite good glass.
 
Do you mean in length? if so, then yes, it depends on the magnification and eye you want though.

For example, a Leupold 1.5-5x20 would fit your length and be of good quality as well, but might not have the magnification you're after. Same for the Millet DMS 1-4x25.

I would recomment you check out the websites of the following manufacturers. They all offer stuff that fits your price range and is of decent quality:

1) Nightforce
2) Leupold
3) Vortex

Yeah I do mean the length. I guess ideally I'd like something with that CQBish look but I suppose I'll have to swallow one of these foot long hotdogs.

I went with the vx3-1-5, Claven, for the scope mods did you send your scope to the States or did they do it in Canada and how much.

Can even get leopuld to customize the turret's for the bullet grain that you are using.
 
I sent it to the Canadian Leupold repair centre. EZ-PZ.

As for CQB looks, you could go with an aimpoint or ACOG sight, but you'd be limited to 1X, 2X, 3,5X or 4X for most offerings and the eye relief on the magnified models is not very long.

For long-ish range shooting, go with a conventional scope IMHO.

I would suggest the R1 or R2 reticle. Why go MOA/mil dot when you can have MOA/MOA?
