Can O' Worms Husky 1640 .30-06?

Today I was in the gun shop and was looking at a Husqvarna 1640 bolt action rifle. From what I have been reading they great rifles, But this one has some issues...

The gun smith was showing me how the stock doesnt fit properly, and isn't inleted 100%. When the gaurd screws are in tight, the action binds causing it be hard to opperate and the safety turns off when the action is closed as a result of this binding. Same goes for the Bolt Release, its not opperable when the action is screwed into the stock. When the barelled action is removed from the stock, all is well... The bolt moves smoothly and the safety as well as the bolt release work just fine.

Is this going to be a can of worms if I buy this thing? or a simple fix? Its probably hard to tell from not being able to see it. :runaway:

Oh, its a walnut stock, that is checkered and has a palm swell. I dont know if thats a factory Husky stock or something else. However it looks nice.

the action more than likely needs to be properly bedded to the stock .

if the barrel looks good , and everything else is nice and tight , consider it a barreled action in need of a stock ( or in this case a proper fitting stock ) and chew them down on the price .
 
Everything does look to be in ship shape, minor bluing wear and liitle dings on the stock. bore looked good, and so did the rest of the action. It was Priced at $300, is that fair?

$300.oo sounds on the low side actually. With your initial concerns I'd be tempted to do a couple of things. 1st, get a gunsmith or someone knowledgeable to check it out and give you an evaluation. 2nd, take it out for a test firing tryout.

I have two Husqvarnas and I'm pleased with both, and their performance. The first is a 30-06 Featherweight.

Look at Trade Ex site, they have, once in a while some spare stocks.

I thought I'd sent you a response but I don't see any evidence of it existing, so.........., I'll try again. At present, my willpower is holding strong but just on the off chance that it may waiver;), if the 270 is available or if it may soon be available, could you PM me the details? It appears to be a close match/mate for the 358NM and already I feel my resolve starting to fade:p.
 
1651 was .358 NM model of the 1640 line, just like yours.
Mine won't have the engraving but wears the same early "Crown Grade" stock as yours. They were offered in three basic "grades";

M/1651 - wich had the thiny stock like Why Not's 1600 Std (4100)

M/1651 "Special" wich had the "Crown Grade" stock, jeweled bolt and the "Timney-Tradewinds" trigger

and the M/1651 Lyx, wich had engraving on floorplate, jeweled bolt and the "Timney-Tradewinds" trigger

There were some special orders made too, but these are the most common (and official) models.
 
Top one looks the same as mine in 6.5x55. Its one sweet shooter. I spent two weeks in Uppsala Sweden last June - they love their guns there!
