I thought i would start this thread in order to get a good look at the latest production run of the Norinco M4, CQ-a. I'm on the fence about getting one and i think if some CGN'rs post a few good up close, clear photo's of this latest version should make up my mind.

Thanks guy's/gals !!

Must be a few haters on here, then again i would probly hate if i spent an extra $1000 on the same rifle. :)

I'm actually not a hater, In fact I purchased an Imperial Defense AR15 awhile back for $1100 and got some nasty comments regarding my purchase on this site.. I heard everything from it's an " abomination" to a " piece of junk" .
Funny thing is that I've put probably 2000 rounds through it and only had 2 malfunctions (which were operator errors) . But I'm still told that it's a substandard rifle and my money could have been better spent.

Here are a bunch of pics of ones from the new batch. I picked a random one to photograph...they all look to be pretty much the same. There is a light coating of oil on it as it came right out of the box.

Interesting, they gone away the CQ triangle markings, now it is replaced by the Norinco logo.
And laser engraved too. Finish seems to be much more even. None of that funny black paint problems.

Looked at one in the shooters edge today, it looked OK, not as good as lets say the S&W AR beside it, but it cost 1/2 as much... I'm sold. If it works, its good enough, since all I can use it for is to punch paper.

How well are the gas key staked? always hearing about some North american ones that aren't done to well, just wondering about the norcs.

Assuming the uppers are from the same place that built the last bunch, which appears to be the case from the photo, the gas keys are properly staked, and the BCG is park'd. The new lowers appear to have a much nicer finish, I can't see any of the over zealous grinder marks that are on the first bunch. These ones look very nice, and if they perform the way my "first generation" one has they are an absolute steal at $699. In the immortal words of Hungry "Don't buy one....buy two"

PS - do the new ones have a number stamped into the underside of the forward assist and is the upper housing relief cut above the trigger group???

why the semi BCG, and not F/A BCG?
also why are the selector stop notches so large?
does the selector switches on these stop at some funky angle like the xcr?
also could you "chemist" tell us the "tightness" of the uppers and lowers, should i get a wedge for one when ordering?
thanks for any answers please

I'll take a look at them again tomorrow. No fully angles. They aren't very high and the selector passes right over them...they are almost flush with the fun. Some don't have them at all.
