405gr cast at 1100 fps for whitetale and blackies?

I put together a very accurate load in my 45-70. 14.5grs of Unique and a 405gr cast bullet for about 1170fps. Just wondering about if its adequate for hunting deer and black bear within 100 yards?

A b ullet that size moving at that speed is very hard to stop. If properly placed it will put down almost any animal you would want to hunt. Practice shooting it at 100 yds then see how you do at 200.

Thanks for all the great replies, its added some confidence in my lower velocity load. I'm just getting a little tired of shooting at 1600+ of the bench with heavy bullets and like to hunt what I shoot with.

I load something very similar in 50/70 with a 350 grain bullet moving @1250ft/sec, it's extremely accurate and effective on large game.

Do you use any filler with that load?

I have a similar load using Trail Boss, which is quite bulky and nearly fills the case.

Yup I just throw in some klenex or TP.
