How To Mount A Rifle Scope So It Is Properly Aligned?

the bullet leaves the barrel at a said trajectory. The point of having the cross hair level to the receiver causes the bullet to be leaving the barrel in line with the vertical crosshairs.

If the crosshairs are off set then the bullet would appear to be leaving at a diagonal direction when referenced to the vertical crosshair. making it next to impossible to adjust the scope as it operates on a vert/horz axis. and this is only amplified as the bullet reaches further out

Think of it like a Etchisketch...easy to go up/down or sideways. But it takes a real hand to adjust it diagonally.

That may not make sense, but I cant describe it better

I have a small 2" level, I cut 2 slots in a cardboard box to hold my rifle and use scrap pieces to shim it tight, I put the level on my scope base to level the rifle, I have my rings already on my scope (loose enough to turn scope). I then but my scope on the mounts ensuring I don't move the rifle, after gently tightening my rings to the bases I put the level on my top turret cap and level the scope.

This may seem kind of cheap but it works great for me.
