Hey fellas,

I just received my Grizzly 8.5" 12 gauge Shotty from CanAm and absolutely love the thing even though it's still a virgin. I was wondering if any of you owners have changed the stock to the pistol grip it came with yet?

I'm asking because I have no idea how to do it safely. I Googled stock changing and read about checking the screws, but this shotgun only has small pins that come out when pushed in. I managed to push out the "big" one closest to the stock but nothing would budge. I didn't try moving the 2nd pin since I didn't wanna damage anything. So yeah, if anyone could give me a hand I'd really appreciate it!

assuming its like all the other norc/dom arms/870s you should just need to take the rubber pad off the stock, then get a long flathead screwdriver and unscrew the one screw holding the stock on. (the rubber pad is most likely held on with 2 philips head screws you may need to push the screwdriver straight into the rubber to get to them)

Its not very difficult. Take off the rubber recoil pad by removing the 2 screws holding it on. Then you'll need to get the big screw off that holds the stock on. I suggest using a ratchet set instead of a screwdriver. That big screw is very hard to turn

For the pad screws you will want a medium phillips screwdriver with a round shaft and a bit of lubricant on the shaft never hurts...:)

Do you own many tools?

With respect this thread should be in the Black and Green shotgun forum. The shotgun forums were separated a few months ago.

Just wondering, does it remain non-res with the pistol grip?

I believe so.

Doesn't "Firearms and Optics" include questions related to "Firearms and Optics"?

No sarcasm here, even if it might sound like it. :/

Also, thanks for everyone and the replies. I've figured it out after screwing around a little more but I'll check out those Youtube videos for added knowledge. Thanks!

Your in hunting and sporting shotguns.....
Personaly I think discussion of how to remove a butt stock on a REm 870 clone could fit in either place, but I also didn't get the need to seperate...

Try not to use the word Shotty here and don't tell anyone that your barrel is less then 30" and you might survive in the hunting and sporting dept.

Otherwise move down one thread where no one really cares all that much what you are shooting as long as you are enjoying yourself.

This forum is Hunting and Sporting Shotguns. I was attempting to help you find the forum where you would find people who might have a more intimate knowledge about your gun.

If you put the pistol grip on it, it will bring it under the magic 26" overall length which would normally put it in the restricted class. I personally disagree with this in this case but the L.E. community would probably look at it as a modification which made it under 26". I would love to see someone challenge this in court. I would love to see the dealers selling these guns take on that challenge.

Also since barrel length seems to be at question here, what is the exact barrel length on an 870 type shotgun that makes it a non hunting or sporting shotgun ? I use my short barrel shotguns exclusively for grouse hunting while on my Quad. Thats plenty sporting or hunting.

With the exception of this post, the owners of the 8.5" Grizzly shotguns are posting in the Black and Green forum. They seem to understand that a gun that short is less than suitable for hunting and sporting purposes. Same with PGO stocks which are also less suitable for a hunting or clay target gun.

I have a suggestion. I hate to see anyone get their panties in such a knot over something so trivial as YOU POSTED IN THE WRONG SECTION . Why don't you express your concerns to one of the moderators and have a sticky placed at the top of "your" section like there is in other forums outlining what is, or is not acceptable. That should prevent the inexcusable error of a newbie asking an honest question in the wrong section. I would like to see the rules, 'cause I honestly just don't get it. Some stuff is obvious, but other stuff is very open to one's opinion. We need more rules. Thats it.

whats easier than more rules that people wont read, is for mods to simply move the thread if they see fit

My objective was to simply direct newbies to where they may find people who might have more intimate knowledge about their shotgun.

In the interests of helping other members I would do the same if someone posted questions in the black and green forum about how to change Perazzi leaf springs or the merits of interia versus mechanical triggers in an over/under.

The separation of the shotgun forum is relatively recent and some members might not appreciate the difference between the two. :)

I would have thought that the question about how to change out the stock on an 870 type shotgun is exactly the type of question for the hunting/sporting section. So I guess you're wrong then eh?

That doesn't keep some of the snobs from trolling the Black shotgun forum.:p;)

The stock operates the same as any 870 stock. You aren't going to tell me that an 870 Wing master isn't a Hunting or Sporting shotugn are you?

;)

Seems to me the trolling works both ways
