Masterkey under-mount

So I'm sure this has been asked before, and I did a search but it came up empty.
What kind of legalities surround such an item?
If you're not familiar with what I'm talking about, a "masterkey" is basically a shortened 870 under-mounted on an AR, or similar rifle.

Not saying that I want to do this, just curious is all.

the firearms stay the same category as before. the non-restricted shotgun stays and the AR is still restricted. legal and heavy as hell.

Other than you will have to trigger lock both when you are storing it, unless you remove the shotgun every time and put the stock back on to get it to legal length, than that it is just another restricted AR.

why? the shotgun is non-restricted and stays that way.

If that were true, any bare receiver sold for a non-restricted firearm would then be "restricted" due to OAL. And that's not the case.

i inquired with the RCMP. i did this several years ago. the stock is the AR. shotgun is still non-restricted, but since the AR is the stock, can only be shot at the range. AR remains restricted.

Bare receivers can't discharge rounds, though....

Sure they can, at least in the context of a masterkey (bare + bolt / barrel, but no "stock" other than the AR). Might not be pleasant or accurate, but a Mossberg 590, for example, will fire just fine with the buttstock removed.

If a gun won't fire with the "stock" removed, then the stock is part of the firearm and not a stock. Which is how we now have bullpups like the Tavor available in Canada.

My understanding is the mounting points for a Masterkey shotgun put undue stress from recoil on parts of an AR-15 that weren't meant to absorb it. Then again as likely as you are to fire it, it's probably not worthy of concern. I'd get one just for kicks (no pun intended).

the ones that attach to the takedown pins are just crap. they will wreck your gun. the better ones place the forces onto the barrel nut.

besides, how much do you think you'll fire? it is heavy as hell, awkward, useless and tons of fun.

I can see a use for the grenade style launcher's but the shotgun looks heavy and cumbersome!

I would think that carrying a short shotgun slung out of the way would be handier, but I'm a Carpenter...
