Shorter flash hider that fits Norc threads?

I'm looking to reduce the OAL of my M14 without going as far as a full shorty job (at least for now). I didn't mind the look of the stock flash hider when I had the original or the Boyds stock but now that I've got to a VLTOR stock the barrel seems really long. I was wondering if there was something that would fit the existing threads that's available in Canada and significantly shorter than the stock hider.

Mine wasn't easy as plug n play but mine has a AR-15 (AR-10 not
available ) birdcage type flash hider, reamed it for 30 cal and tapped
it to the barrel threads after it was chopped to 18.5 ". It's very good for
flash and break capabilities.

The smith enterprise vortex is a little shorter. These are very dificult to get out of the US due to ITAR regs, but they do pop up in the EE every now and again. You'd need the one that attaches using the norc castle nut. Other than that, i think your only option is cutting/rethreading.

I think the AR15 FH won't fit an M305 barrel that hasn't been chopped. I could be wrong but I think a shortened muzzle has a larger circumference that the original uncut muzzle.

Take a spare flash hider. Cut it to the desired length. The slots will be open ended just like the original AR unit. Or just cut it right back until it is only a front sight base. Should be just fine until you make a final decision.

Yeah, from what I understand that's the case. There are lots of 1/2X28 hiders but I'd like to avoid the expense of having a re-thread done. I'd really like to use one that uses the existing thread (5/8"x24 I think)

Hmmm...I like that idea. How hard do you think the steel would be to cut?

I grabbed one of these at TSE (I think) for my Poly...fit like a dream!
