Draw for deer tag

I was picked as a winner for a second whitetail tag! (First kill antlerless)

Anyone else in Qc get drawn for an extra tag?

Yup, I got mine, as did all the guys in my group. This year my 11yr. old daughter is coming for the first three days of the hunt, so I was happy to win since there are so many does in my area, she has a great chance to be there when I get one.

that must really suck to have to be drawn for a 2nd tag.... low numbers, or just the way your DNR manages things??

It's a little of both. In the past, some areas had huge spikes in the deer population. Manly because all the land is privately owned and if you weren't part of the landowners circle of buddies, or of an association with hunting rights you just weren't hunting there. The deer population grew to a point where it had a negative effect on the health on the herds. One way to counter this was to set up draws for those areas and let the hunters cull the numbers.

In Quebec it's mainly 1 deer per hunter, unless you hunt on Anticosti island where you will be permitted to hunt 2. I don't believe we have the numbers that you will find out west. We don't have Mule deer or Blacktail either. I would love to be able to harvest 5 or 6 deer like you can in some provinces.

Congrats!

I'm in 5 west

I'm 5 West also. Most everyone in my group has won the dbl. harvest or at least the doe permit for the last 6 years or more. In our area going back 7-8yrs, there have been a crazy amount of doe's, and finally the last two years there has been less of them. One thing I have noticed with fewer does, is I see a bit bigger bucks now, though I am not sure if there is a connection there.

With all the mild winters we keep getting, its been great for the hunters.

The one big P!ss off, is the $20 they started charging to get the dbl. harvest.

I hear ya 55 for a regular tag + an extra 20 for the dbl harvest + 8 for the draw itself.......
