I just won a sheep draw and am thinking of lightning up my compact, one wouldn't think so, but the laminate stock weighs a bit.

Anyways, if someone could point me to a replacement synthetic stock, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Alex

Have you tried WSS Mail Order ?
I bought a Bell and Carlson from them around Easter for my Vanguard, but I do not know if they have one for your Ruger.
Go to B&C and look if they have one for your rifle, then try the WSS Website.
Hope that helps.

Some links to makers for you that have models for Ruger...

Note that some stocks will still require fitting to some extent.

I've bought several HS Precision for Remingtons, and they were indeed drop in fits as advertised. And, IMHO, are darn good stocks for the dollar.

Not sure you're going to realize much of a difference between the stock currently on your gun and synthetic. I'd advise that the only way to be sure is to remove yours and weigh it exactly down to the ounce, and use that for comparison to specs on a replacement.

A lot of synthetic stocks aren't meant to be necessarily lighter, but more towards stronger, capable of taking punishment, and improve accuracy. Laminated stocks for the most part achieve the same benefits.

Oh, hell! I'm gonna add one more thing here...

Find something that weighs exactly 6 ounces, or maybe 8, which is about what you might actually gain, and then hold it in your hand for a minute or two, and then ask yourself if that's gonna make a big difference on your hike up the mountain for that sheep hunt? A big enough difference worth $300 to $500 or more bucks???

Just sayin...

:)

Ok, fine, you got me. There's another reason I want to have a synthetic stock; I don't want to scratch/ding my beautiful laminate stock!

;)

Thanks for the leads guys,

Alex

Hello Alex,
Go to the Brownell's website and type 780-001-234AB into their search by product #..
This will net you a Ruger Stock Assembly, Short Action, All-Weather for $73.05 USD...
Then I would call Brownell's Tech Support # and tell them what you have and ask them if the above stock will work esp. regarding the barrel channel size..
I believe since the stock is under $100.00 USD that you can import it direct.. If you cannot import direct then you can import it thru several dealers who advertise on this forum..
I know how you feel about not wanting to scratch your lovely over weight pig of a laminate stock as I have one also......:(

Thanks nrut,

Just called them, they don think that that stock will work but they will see if they can special order one. Should get a call back tomorrow...

Put this on my Ruger Frontier to save the purty laminate stock from hardship. Got it used at a gun shop. Fit fine though the 358Win Frontier has a more chuncky barrel profile than the compact I think.

I also have compact model...isnt' it just a plain jane Ruger M-77 Hawkeye with a short barrel ? I would think that there are quite a few aftermarket stocks for that inlet but Ive never really looked around.....having a spare canoe paddle stock would be useful.

Alex, is the compact a short action or long action ?
I replaced the laminate on my .338 mag with a B&C stock from WSS. Bedded properly this has worked good for me.
