Ok lots of threads taking a hunting shotty to a tactical gun, I want to do the opposite. I'm planing on using my Marine Magnum for upland as well as pheasants and maybe jump shooting ducks out of my kayak this fall (and a bunch of pest control -starling etc..)

What is your list of most desirable mods..

I already have had it threaded for remchoke system and have four custom choke tubes from wilson precision, skeet 1, mod, x full and cardshooter

Let me know, going shopping real soon...lol

Gargoyle, sounds like youre ready to go hunting! with that many choke tubes and all the different loads on the market, that thing should be able to do whatever you need it to. Though I would pick up an imp. cyl, and full for it too, as I find I dont really need specialty chokes for smaller game birds. So long as your stock and sight(s) are comfortable for you, then I'd say pick a suitable means of carrying (sling, scabbard etc.) and have at her! You do still have the 2 rd. plug for it, dont you? other than that I like an ammo carrier to have quick access to it when you get over run :D Thats my .02 cents, have fun

Lol, hunting guns are un-modded normal shotguns with 24-30" barrels and bead or fiber optic sight at the end of a vented or non vented barrel. What more does one need, other than maybe a can of Krylon to paint over that cheap nickel finish.

Thanks guys, thats kindof what I was thinking. No I do not have a plastic limiting plug for it as this gun never came with one. It has the original 2rd extension on it as well, which is coming off on sunday hopefully as a friend has a spare I'm buying off of him. I plan on picking up a plug from the shop today. My bead sight on it works but I would really prefer a fiber optic sight if possible, my only problem is I cannot figure out how to remove the stock one (do I even have to?) can I just slap one of those plain barrel fiberoptic units hiviz sells behind the stock one? It has a sling on it now but the front mounts to the barrel clamp for the 2rd extension so I will be loosing that shortly and i'm not sure if the new one has a stud for it.

Turning a tactical gun into a hunting and sporting gun is easy. Just reverse the usual steps.

What you need for a Marine Magnum are an old-style Remington magazine cap, a shorter magazine spring, a magazine plug and a longer Remington factory barrel. For waterfowl I'd suggest 28 inches although 26 or 30 would do equally well. When you buy the replacement barrel ensure it has a ball detent in the ring that fits around the magazine. The MM uses the older style ball detent to accomodate the magazine extension.

While Remington doesn't make a silver finish barrel the two-tone MM with the blued barrel and end cap along with the silver receiver makes for a very attractive looking package.

about your marine magnum

hello there i have the same shotgun and i have not been able to locate a plug to reduce the capacity to 2 rounds so i used wooden dowel instead. that way you can leave your extension tube on and retain your front swivel. the front sight is pressed in so it is difficult to remove. i put a butler creek stainless folding stock on it so it would fit in the quad box and it also works nice. i got all my ducks with it last year but i had to limit my range to about 40 yards. I would like to know how much the choke helped and where you got it done if you dont mind. happy shooting!

I had the barrel threaded at a local shop "Santarossa Shooting Sports" in Rodney, Ontario (not sure where you are located). I talked to a gunsmith today when I picked up the new additions for it and I am planning on doing the wooden dowel trick once again, did it a few years back when I used this gun for bunnies and squirels. I just bought a used Choate non folding pistol grip stock and it fits me very nice and I love the way it points with this stock. I also picked up a snap on fiber optic sight so i do not have to remove the stock sight at this point. Also picked up a 5 round shell holder that I have mounted on the stock for some handy extra rounds. Tried to pick up an IC choke tube but I'm pretty set on an extended one and they didn't have any instock, so still searching. This is really starting to come together quick.. gonna taker out maybe tomorrow with some 9 shot and see how it works on wing shooting grackles and starlings out in the fields..

Thanks

Gargoyle, its a bit more work but patterning the shotgun would be a good way to find your max effective range, sounds like youve got one ###y hunting shotgun! I'd like to see some pics of it :D

After getting some info on an XS sight that mounts over the factory bead, I plan on switching the snap on fiber tube as soon as I can locate one. And yes I know I need to clean my choke tubes..:)

Nice shotgun, Gargoyle. The reflection should blind and confuse the birds making wingshooting a snap :D Last time I was in Wholesale Sports they had a selection of plastic limiter plugs for shottys with extended tubes. Anyone try the XS Big Dot notice if the tritium vial sits higher than the bead sight? The bead is just a little low on my Maverick and a big dot looks like what I'm after

ya i figure it's better than a nova scotia tolling dog... the shine should draw them right in... or not, we will have to see I guess. I ended up making a plug out of a hardwood dowel I had laying around, an amazing full 12 inches to make it fit properly...
