Hey all,

The father of a friend recently passed away leaving a few 12.6 guns to be dealt with.

One I believe is a S&W 5906 and another a S&W .357 revolver (don't have the list in front of me). They are post 1946 guns and not eligible to be transferred to the son as 12.7 (he does not have 12.6 status).

Would there be a source for Restricted barrels to convert them to restricted status so they may stay in the family?

Thanks

start calling gunsmiths to find out who is able to do the work, and the smith that is set up to do so will probably have a source of barrels.

While Questar has brought in (Canadian legal-length) Bar-Sto (S&W) 5900 series barrels in the past, they told me that they are no longer available. Your option is a custom barrel. Bits of Pieces is one gunsmithy that will do it.

If resale value was the consideration, it's not economic to replace the 5906 barrel. Period.

If, however, the sentimental value of the pistol is the consideration, the work - though uneconomic - will be well within virtually anyone's budget.

I'd suggest that he contact Bits of Pieces.
