Chiappa 22lr

chiappa 1911-22

I have the fixed sight model, Got it from P&D for $399.

I have put about 500 rounds through it so far. It likes plated hollow points, solid plain lead gives some feeding and ejecting problems. With AE 40gr solids 15 out of 50 would either fail to feed or eject.

Federal 525 pack 36 gr plated hollow point has been running well, maybe 5 out of 200 failing to eject. CCI Minimag ran with no problems at all.

One complaint, about half the time it ejects straight back at your face.

Other then cleaning, I have also polished the feed ramp, underside of slide and top of hammer. Seems to cycle lot smoother.

I got to shoot one that they have at our local Rent-A-Gun range. Overall the look and feel is solidly 1911 and the finish is nice. Although the plastic grip panels are a bit cheezy. But those are easily replaced with nice wood grip panels. The only fly in the ointment is the trigger feel. It's a LONG way from the classic 1911 trigger feel with a long, creep filled, gravelly feeling trigger pull. But this is the sort of thing that can be fixed I'm sure. The pull isn't overly heavy, just long and gritty feeling by 1911 standards. But to be fair the trigger pull isn't any worse than some guns I've shot.

Overall I think the price for it isn't bad but I would want to know that I could do something to make the trigger action more like a nicely tuned 1911 before I commited to buying.
