I would say, go with the same length inside as the original frankenpin, and take it from there. Hint: just take the magazine to Home Depot

applied the same method to my Russian Sks after the pin broke.

took a screw with a round head, polished it and reblued the whole thing...

cost was $0.37

looks and works much better than the russian lumber jack welding job...

I did the same to my magazine, I believe it was a 1 1/2" bolt but I had to cut about an 1/8" off the bolt to make it accommodate 5 rounds. Stick the bolt in the magazine and feed 5 rounds in, if it works you are good (as long as it doesn't hold more than five), if it doesn't take the bolt to your bench grinder or dremmel or file or whatever you have until it holds five rounds. I put some red loctite on mine to ensure it wasn't EASILY removable

As long as he's payin the bills, yep hawk away. This site cost money and I for one would miss it if it was gone or we had to pay for it. His hawking keeps the lights on and the coffee brewing so to speak.

Oh I never said that the 5 round rule was stupid; it prevents little children from being eaten! And since you are a responsible gun owner, I highly doubt that you broke your pin

I used a 5/16" by 1-1/4" grade 5 bolt for mine, it works fine with no grinding to the bolt end required. The only thing I will do is turn the head round on the bolt and put a radius or chamfer on it. Life is good!
