I'd get a 270 so you have a nice range of calibres

and the 270 would be nice in the edge and keep the ability to hunt almost everything you can with a .308 (if you have the right bullet and proper shot placement of course)

If ammo availability is an issue up there, I would stick with a .308, as you're already buying it. If its not a problem, I would get one in .25-06, just cuz...

I never hered off 25-06 whats it good for ?

My Daughter & Son In Law have a pair of Savages in 22-250 and when I found out how well they shoot I decided to get one. I wanted something with a little more power that would reach out long range for Varmints and Predator shooting. From Bashaw Sports I picked up a Savage 112BVSS in 25-06 to fill in a gap in some of my calibers;). If or when I gat a draw for Antelope in AB, I may use it for that also. I did put decent glass on it, a Leupold VX-III, 6.5-20 Long Range with Varmint reticle. For an inexpensive rifle it shoots like a hot damm and pardon the homemade target.. ;)Good 'bang for the buck'.

Well ammo does cost $$$ up here i am lucky to be able to get some from ottawa ever now and then i will ask around up her to see if anybody has 25-06 that i can try

I found that the 270 has a big recoil or is that just me and the rifle i was useing

Either or both. The 270 is NOT known as a heavy recoil cartridge.
A look at some of the online recoil tables rifles shows the 25-06 to have less recoil than a 270 Win which has less recoil than a 308 win.

If the rifle doesn't fit you "felt" recoil can be much more than the same cartridge in a rifle that does fit you.

I'm going to buy an edge in 25.06. Perfect deer and long range coyote rifle IMO. Never shot an EDGE but I hear good things and my local gun dealer likes them, he said his shoots like his Stevens 200. Good enough for me. I've shouldered one and had no problems, the bolt is a little stiff but I'm used to my tikka and sako.

the edge is between the savage 111 and stevens 200, very inexpensive good shooting rifle

I don't have an Edge so i can't really help you with that one. For caliber though i'd suggest you stick with the .308 because you can find ammo pretty much everywhere and the recoil is relativly mild. It would help to know exactly what you're hunting up there and how far your shots normaly are. If it's anything under 300 yards and you're not pecking off musk ox regularly then the .308 will be more than adequate. Good luck.
