don't you hate them ;)

please excuse my grammar and spelling in advance, i suck at it.

so i'm trying to understand this whole deal and i have a bunch of questions if you wouldn't mind.

1. in order to buy firearms and ammo as well store them (not sure on storing) i need a PAL licence. of which there are 3 classes, non-restricted, restricted, and prohibited.
* Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) for firearms (If a PAL is issued for more than one class of firearm, the fee payable is the greatest of the appropriate fees.)
o non-restricted firearms - $60
o restricted firearms - $80
o prohibited firearms - $80
my question is about pricing. from the above quote for me to get non-restricted and restricted firearms it would cost me $80 correct?
and lets say i wanted to get them all it would still cost $80 since it's the greatest fee of them all?

2. i was reading over the newbie FAQ and i want to make sure i understand this question;
Q: I tried shooting and I like it! How do I get my PAL or POL licence?
A: You no longer can get a POL (Possession Only Licence). No problem really, as you do not yet have guns, you will need to get a PAL anyways.
To get a PAL (Possession and Acquisition Licence), you must pass a written and a practical (hands-on) test. Generally, you would take a one or two day/evening course, although, if you feel you are up for it, you may challenge the test without taking the course. Also, the PAL comes in two types, a non-restricted for most long guns, and Restricted, (PAL-R) for some rifles, and all handguns. More info can be found here.

A separate course is required for the Restricted and Non-Restricted Licences.

assuming i know enough i can challenge the exam/test without taking a course. but later on it says a separate course is required for the restricted and non-restricted licences.

3. ATT (Authorization To Transport) - this is only for prohibited and restricted firearms correct?

do you need to get a ATT every time you want to transport your firearms? i did look at the actual form and it says you can select a weekly thing for target shooting.

4. reloading ammunition, outside of the special tools does it require any special licence? i don't think it does though.

so to summarize i want to get my firearm licence so i need to read up on it and the books on restricted and non-restricted firearms. then challenge the exam/testing. wait for the licence in the mail. buy a glock 17 or 19 :) and some ammo then get a ATT for said firearm and head to a shooting range correct?

thanks again for all your help.

1. Yes, you can combine your classifications together and just pay $80. But I can almost guarantee you that you will be denied of prohibited class.

2. Yes, non-restricted and restricted classifications require separate courses. However, you can challenge both course at the same time (once for non-restricted, once for restricted).

3. Correct. ATT is only required on restricted or prohibited firearms. You don't have to call for ATT every time you move your firearm if you have a Long Term ATT (LTATT) which will authorize you to move your firearm from your home to a range of your choice (or other special places they authorize you to go). Wherever your LTATT doesn't cover, you can always apply for a short term ATT.

4. No, they don't require license. But once all the reloading materials form a single round, that round is now required to have a license to legally possess it.

Remember, the challenge exam requires both a theoretical exam and a practical exam. So make sure you know the proper procedures for safe handling of a firearm before you throw money into challenge course.

thanks for your answers, helps alot.

i don't have any plans to get a prohibited licence, but why to you say it would be unlikely i would get one?

back to reading :)

^All good advice.

Don't bother taking the courses. When you have read the material and feel confident that you can remember most of it,(it's not rocket science) come by my place and I'll give you a crash course on how to pass the hands on section. You have shown excellent handling safety practice when fiddle f**king with mine in the past that I feel confident that you'll breeze through the test with not a problem.

It'll likely be $70-80 for both together. (PAL & RPAL) I know a few people that do the testing but the closest is in Cavan (Like an hr from here) but i'm sure there are a few here in Scarborough. (I have a list somewhere)

Good luck tomorrow at Target Sports bud. I'm working tonight so likely won't make it.
