Protecting your Sig p226 finish?

Anyone finding that the p226s finish is easy to scuff when doing things like cleaning? or even the sides when laying them down something i.e. table?

Any suggestions to protect it?

IMO Nitron is a pretty tough finish. There are lot of reports on sigforum where people carry their Sig daily in and out of kindex holster with no finish degradation.

When it "dries" (It'll become gray-ish) just put a few drops of oil on a rag and wipe it: it'll look like new (deep black)!
 
buy a beater gun that you use as a tool and not a decoration. Norincos seem great for that - they're cheap, simple, and the scuffs give them more character too! you'd be surprised at how much extra people will pay for "distressed looking" stuff in other hobbies.

either that, or wear cotton gloves and carry around a towel with you, so that your dainty gun doesn't see anything worse than a soft kitten.
 
Something must be wrong with the finish on your gun or you abuse it. I've had my 226 4 years, shoot it every 2 weeks, and it still looks like new.

just had a thought (rare as that is)... if you're nervous about scratches when putting it down on a table either at home or at the range, carry a rubber mat, like the kind used to line tool drawers. heck, go to the dollar store and scope out the various placemats and find something you'd be comfortable shelling a dollar or two for to put your thousand-dollar gun on.

i got those foamy rubber types, 2-pack for a dollar, the type that look like a mesh.

Or go all out and get a silicone baking sheet. The new kinds that roll up. They're awesome. Super tough and durable, and you can use it to bake cookies on when you're not shooting. I think you can get them in red, blue, lime green...

Geez, I just convinced myself. I might just steal my wife's. She doesn't really use it.
