I am going to replace my CZ452 varmint trigger with a Timney. My centre fire rifles are all at 3lbs. What pull weight would you order the Timney at. I was thinking 2 or 2.5. Is it better to have a rimfire trigger set as low as possible or do you think I should stick with 3?

I have already had the factory trigger to the smith for polishing and it still doesn't compare to my Sako or other Timney that I have.

It is what the rifle will be used for that determines what I want in a trigger, not if it is centerfire or rimfire. If it will be carried a lot as a hunting rifle, I don't like anything below 3lb or so. If it will see a lot of range use and target shooting, lighter is better.

Not sure if yours is as new as mine but my CZ452 has an adjustable trigger and there is a kit to lighten the spring load too. Timneys are nice but might be an idea to try those things first. Unless of course you want to spend the money and just drop a Timney in the first place.

There is an adjuster nut that you back off to lighten the trigger pull. Its been a while, but I believe that unless you pull the spring and its seat away from the nut, you can't turn it. If you wish, you can remove the nut altogether (which would have a radical change on the spring preload). You can fit any similar lighter coil spring in its place that you scavange from other devices, or take a pair of sidecutters and snip half a turn at a time off the spring to shorten its length and thus preload. You should be able to get the stock trigger and spring down to 2.5 lbs. That ballpark is plenty fine for me shooting gophers.

I should have mentioned that the main reason I was going to buy the Timney is because I don't like the creep that the factory trigger has. I know the Timney that I just installed in my .25-06 has zero creep same with my Sako. When ordering from Timney they allow you to choose a desired pull weight before they ship it. If doing what you suggest eliminates the creep I will give it a go. What do you think?

No, it doesn't eliminate the creep. To do that you have to limit sear engagement. A small piece of brass tubing from the model airplane shop is all you need. Go to rimfire central. It is illustrated there. That's exactly the method used on the Brooks kit. A small piece of tubing you install over one of the pins in the trigger group. This makes contact with one of the moving parts and limits how far it resets.

See yodave aka formeryodave on ebay for his kit with springs and shims.

X 2. The kit is made and shipped from Canada in a standard envelope. It arrived in under a week and cost a total of about $16! The parts go on really easily. No need to waste $100 on a Timney.
