Hi all
I am looking to buy one of the "factory seconds" walnut M1A stocks from Boyds', and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. The stock I am considering has a chip in the foor plate slant. I am not really sure what this means; is it a cosmetic thing, or will it affect the fitting of the rifle itself?
Many thanks!

No upper handguard supplied unless it specifically states so.

Any of the critical surfaces are also covered by the receiver or trigger group, and could be built up with epoxy. I'm guessing, but the floor plate is likely where the trigger group bears against the bottom of the stock. You could definately repair that with jb weld and likely not see it.

For the price it is often worth the "risk". Their factory seconds all have minor issues but save you literally half the cost! It has been awhile since I saw regular M1A stocks available from them, just factory seconds for quite some time.

If you buy a Factory Second, I suggest you go for one whose only defect is "minor knots". The knots will be practically unnoticeable and the rest will be perfect.

w ww.boydsgunstocks.com Too bad that their M1A walnut stock is $ 106 and above the (silly and magic) $ 100 mark for exporting legalese. I was also looking around for an unfinished price hoping to keep things under the $ 100 mark.

Looks to me that all their 'seconds' M1A stocks under 'Crazy deals' are gone!

Cheers,
Barney

Actually, I just placed an order for mine, $68.00 shipped!

Anyone here ever order a stock from Wenigs? Their M1A stock has a higher comb for
using a scope and more of a pistol grip. Can be ordered in walnut, birch and laminated. Prices are $125 to 185 plus more for the handguard.
