... an H SCHMIDT OSTHEIM/RHOEN Model 21 22LR revolver? My wife just bought one and it is in serious need of a cleaning. I have never had a revolver before so I don't know how to take it apart safely for cleaning. Any help is appreciated. Here are the pics:

it should come apart just like any other saa unless you want to get into the lockwork- after making sure the gun is empty, put it on half ####( 2 clicks back if there's 4, you should feel it- that should retract the hand- then put the revolver left side up, push in on the button/screw on the front left side, and that should allow you to pull out the cylinder pin- the long rod that goes through the centre of the cylinder- then open the loading gate and walk the cylinder out through the open gate- you'll still have to clean from the muzzle as far as the barrel is concerned, but you can do a better job with the cylinder out of the way- yours may vary from that, and clean the cylinder the same as you would the barrel- then walk the cylinder back through the gate and rotate it until you feel it click into place, then push the cylnder pin back in, and fully #### it, and release it- it's been a whule , so i'm a little foggy on how to replace it- it should be just the reverse of how to take it out

Isn't the ruger single 6 pretty much the same? Can download a manual for that.

no, the ruger single six has the transfer bar mechanism -for that model, you simply open the loading gate to retract the hand- what he wants it the OLD model single six or any of the rugers pre-1973- or the colt saa- it needs to have 4 steps to the hammer, and the half-#### retracts the hand

i found my manual on the old colt single action as well as the old model blackhawk- i'm right on the half- #### thing- i can send pictures if you get into troublE- pm me with your real- world address - get used to cocking/decocking first- pull the hammer back to full ####, pull the trigger and let the hammer go forward SLOWLY until you KNOW WHERE ALL 4 POSITIONS ARE- rest, first, half, and full- only when you're sure it's empty, full #### it and GENTLY lower the hammer to half #### to disengage the hand and remove the cylinder to clean it- it's like you should hear the word COLT when cocking-

CAUTION this is the OLD STYLE single action, so PAY ATTENTION when you're using it that YOU ONLY LOAD 5 - load, skip, load, load, load, load, , then put it on HALF #### and rotate the cylinder so that there's and EMPTY CHAMBER UNDER THE HAMMER-and lower the hammer slowly use both thumbs if you have to- sure it's only a 22, but it's JUST AS DANGEROUS AS IT'S BIG BROTHER- i Can't emphasize that enough-
it CAN fire if dropped or that hammer goes forward with ENOUGH FORCE to hit that primer- that's the REASON for only putting FIVE ROUNDS IN THE CYLINDER- it has no safety cut outs in the cylinder - i can see that from the pictures- so you always START WITH AN EMPTY CHAMBER and end up on an EMPTY CHAMBER- now properly, cautioned, GO HAVE FUN

I had read that about old single action revolvers. She'll be careful, she read what you wrote. We got it apart easily enough and got it cleaned up. There was a lot of lead fouling and I doubt it had ever been cleaned but it's all nice and shiny now.
