So I am thinking about picking up a trail camera,or two.I have no experience with them so I need some help. What features should I be looking for?How long are batteries going to last?
Any info would help.
Thanks

Lots of info here, ht tp://w ww.jesseshunting.com/forums/game-trail-cameras-camcorders/
try the game cam revues section and see what people think of different features. I like a security access code and a fairly stout mounting system with some adjustability. If they are going on public land expect some theft and vandalisim so think long and hard on whether you want to hang a couple of hundred dollars in a tree to see a few animals and how honourable your fellow woods users are.:(

i picked up the 3rd one in early may. Takes AMAZING pictures! and the batterie is still showing full after 1,000+ pics!

The Bushnell Trophy cam is supposed to be basicly the same camera as the Scoutguard, just in a different shell, and cost less money, and does not need a separate remote control/programmer like the Scoutguard. Not having to carry around a separate remote unit is what made me buy the Bushnell over the Scoutguard.

My first Cam was a Moultrie I40, and my new Bushnell is much much better in almost every way compared with the Moultrie. The only thing my Moultrie is better at is night shots. The IR flash is a bit stronger on the moultrie.

Did you read the final review of the Bushnell Trophy Cam XLT on Chasingame.com. :(

Looks like there are still water infiltration problems...same style of case as the old cams, with the same old problems.

Hope you have better luck then they did. :)

I do not have that problem since I put mine inside a home made case. I did one time forget to put the cover on my case for about three weeks, and it got rained on , and I had no water issues.

One big thing I like with the Bushnell over the Moulrie, is the Moultrie actually makes a "click" sound when a photo is taken, where the Bushnell is dead silent.

moultrie i40
Nice camera, and moultrie has them on clearance to make way for new models
going for around $150 retail!

The Moultrie I40 does not have near the amount of settings available that the Bushnell or Scoutguard has, not to mention the Moultrie is more than twice the size as the Bushy and Scoutguard, and as I mentioned, the Moultrie makes a noticeable click, when it takes a pic.

The Moultrie does make an audible click when the shutter releases.

It is evident in alot of my pics, that the deer are very leery of it at first, but grow accustomed to it.

They (I40, 50's) are definitely bigger than the newer Scoutguard, UWay. But battery-life is unsurpassed. Heat/cold didn't matter, 2000+++ pics, 4+ months on 4 D batt.

If I found another I50 for $150, I would probably grab it...but I'm also very tempted by the new UWay cams.
I'm not saying they are the best cams out there...but mine has been good to me. Already into its 3rd season, no real problems.

I really like the case you made. :)

The flash of my Bushnell seems to spook the animals a little but they then procced to sniff and sometimes lick the camera in following shoots, IR is nice but the flash seems to work more reliabely. I am going to get a Moultrie M65 as my next cam.

If you have the $$$$ you could always add an IR black flash to your camera. They cost as much as a camera, but nothing glows at all when the IR flash goes off. Would be worth the money if you were using your cam as a security device.
