Does anybody know where I could send my Tay 7 to get it looked over. I have not shot it in a few years and when I went to put a Co2 cartridge in it all blew out the breach. It may just need a little lube but I want to sell it and make sure it is working well before that.

Guns and Things, Blackie AB.

Sells target airguns, among other things.

Probably worth a try.

Used to be a RCMP guy (retired, maybe) by the name of Jerry Tynowski, or something very like that, who was an airgun guy in Moose Jaw a few years back. May still be around, and may be worth calling. Been about 10 years, so he may be long gone, but I knew guys there that went as long without getting out of that town, so you never know.

Probably something complicated, like a bit of varnished up oil holding the valve open. Try a drop of oil at the intake port of the CO2 chamber, and dry fire it a half dozen times, before trying more CO2.

The TAU's usually come with a full set of seals and instructions for maintenance. Yours not? Or you just not feeling like the adventure?

Did you forget that the breech needs to be closed, and the gun needs to be cocked before you pierce the CO2 powerlet?

If so, don't feel bad. I've done it a couple times, and I've certainly never gone two years without shooting mine. It's quite a feeling when the gun dumps a whole powerlet out the muzzle in half a second, and the gun gets mighty frosty.

Once I even shot it with the breech open, and had to search everywhere for one of the two little rubber O rings that blew off.

I didn't know Jerry was an airgun guy. I have coffee with him once and a while, I will ask him when I see him again.

I actually bought the Tau used, with no manual so I didn't know that the breach needed to be closed or cocked, and it might be missing the o-rings then as well.

The Tau fell victim to my Diana 48 as far as usage goes and that fell victim to .22lr when I left S'toon. Now I am shooting gophers instead of Pigeons and Magpies

Jerry put me on to a Crosman 600 that he had seen in Montreal, and which I subsequently bought and had to rebuild.

Check the Pilkguns (Pilkinton Target Sports, IIRC) site and see if they have any manuals for the Tau. They used to have a library of stuff about various models. No doubt the manuals are available somewhere on the web.

Most of the O rings are just standard size parts, from what I have been able to gather. Better to use urethane O rings around the pressurized areas, but for the chamber seals and other places where the CO2 is not in constant pressure contact, whatever you can find at PA or CTire will work just fine.

Tau 7 now restricted weapon

yup those brilliant fools in ottawa have done it again. check all guns made under the tau brand name to be sure you aren't in illegal possession of a deadly weapon now lol.

Cibles Canada can do some work on them. I would try just a little lube and replace orings. If you the o-ring in the breech pops off try securing it with some silicon calking.

Good luck,

Brian

Never heard this, are you sure you are correct?

The Tau 7 barely makes it past 400fps, never mind over 500 fps. Mine is 395fps, therefore not considered a firearm under the Firearms Act.

Speaking of a Tau 7, does anyone know where to get extra wooden grips? I have one, but the grips are small and doesn't have an adjustable palm rest.
