Excellent choice. Those were the first two guns I bought. Both are great shooters. Cleaning the Ruger is a ##### though.

Springfield XD 9mm and .40 S&W (4" versions) - maybe even the 3.8" XDm.
A real Luger.
A snubnose .44 British Cavalry Officer's revolver (don't know any specific info on it, just knew and elderly British gentleman that had one).
A silencer. Lots of silencers. Sorry, I meant "suppressors".
Drum mags and a full-auto 12 ga shotgun.
But since these are too dangerous for law-abiding citizens to own, below is my "available in Canada" wishlist.
Springfield XDm 9mm or .40 S&W (haven't decided yet).
Lots of M1911A1's. Norinco, Springfield Armory, Kimber, Para Ordnance, STI, Colt... You're wondering why I said Norinco, next to all the other fine 1911 manufacturers. Easy - gotta have one gun to beat up on, and try my hand at some newbie-level mods.
An AR-15 or something similar. A Robinson Arms XCR if I had the $$$.
A Norinco M14/M305 - synthetic stock.
Not sure about shotguns or hunting rifles... Maybe a Tikka in .30-06.
And I'm definitely getting my hands on some of those legal short barreled Dominion Arms/Grizzly shotguns when money permits (or if it seems likely that the Liberals and/or NDP might win a federal election - I'll go into debt if required).
I'm going to start with a hunting rifle and the XDm (or a 5" XD if the XDm is a PITA to get ahold of) first.

This was my wish list on May 18....
...as of today I have a nice numbers matching No1 MkIII Lee Enfield, a Mossberg .22 "Plinkster" and an inherited air rifle. The P-38 is transferred and will be here this week, the P-1 should be ready to pick up next week, and the Enfield revolver is in the process of being transferred.
Not bad for a month and a half!

Looks like I was wrong... Didn't buy a hunting rifle first, or an XD, or even an XDm.
My first official firearm purchase - although I don't have my PAL yet, so it can't legally be transferred to me yet, so I don't technically really "according to Hoyle" own it yet - was a Norinco M1911A1 (sport model). Can't wait until the day when I open that box up!
And I'm changing my mind quite a few times when it comes to buying my first hunting rifle... I know I want a .30-06. I've never changed my mind about the caliber. But I've gone from wanting a Tikka T3 Stainless, to a Savage package gun (for a brief time, until I read about the AccuTrigger and AccuStock), and now I want the Savage 111 FCNS in .30-06. The Savage and the Tikka are right around the same price - but the AccuTrigger wins... Until I decide I want a different hunting rifle (in .30-06).

My RPAL has been issued but has been in the dreaded Canada Post, somewhere between NS & NB for the past week.
In the meantime I've been stewing over my list and order of priority, here's what I've come up with for now:
O/U or semi shotgun for skeet/trap
Russian SKS
S&W M&P 9mm
H&K USP Variant 1 9mm (or higher caliber if I can afford to feed it by the time I get one)
Some form of M1911, haven't decided on one yet
Desert Eagle .50
Springfield M1 Garand (once I can afford the ammo or get into reloading)
No doubt the list will expand over time.
