I just had a thought: Perhaps the government might consider Authorizations To Carry for single shot .22 rimfire pistols with barrels of 10" or longer, carried in external holsters.
This would resolve the perennial yearning for a little rimfire on the hip or in a chest holster to take care of the odd grouse or rabbit while big game hunting, or do a bit of plinking in the off hours, or function as a survival gun in the event of being lost.
It would basically be a Thompson Contender or Encore exception to the general rule. I think it might be doable because:
1. It's 'only' a single shot pistol: purpose-built for target shooting and hunting.
2. It's a low-powered rimfire.
3. Though still portable, the size is large enough to that illegal concealment wouldn't be an issue.
4. Barrel length would be adequate for game.
5. One could mount a peep sight, red dot or scope on it.
6. More appropriate for small game than an air pistol.
7. Must be cased and double-locked within any city limits: regular range ATT rules apply.
What do you think?
